Paint Like Moebius? Digital watercolor?

I’m trying to figure out how I’m going to do the art for a comic story I’m writing, and I would really like to paint the colors in a style like Moebius (Jean Giraud). I’ve read that it’s synthetic watercolor. If that’s the case, I may just end up attempting traditional watercolors (but also, what’s the difference between regular and synthetic?), but I would like to see if there’s a digital alternative, since that way I can paint while I’m at work (I work in a computer lab). I have a tablet, although I’m still terrible with it. I plan to do ink lineart and then color it.

I’m not even sure if Moebius does his own colors! If anyone knows otherwise, do tell.

Any pointers or tutorials, what program to use etc, would be greatly appreciated.

WTH is synthetic watercolor? :surprised There’s synthetic watercolor brushes (meaning the bristles are made with synthetic instead of animal hair), but I don’t think there’s such a thing as synthetic watercolor.

I don’t think it really matters if you use exactly what he uses–there are more than one way to skin a cat. I bet you can mimic his style even with a software like Corel Painter.

You can definitely reproduce that look with Painter X “new simple watercolor” brush.

great, I’ll have to try that out… is Painter CMYK/print friendly? I haven’t used it much.
