Paint Effects Hair Glowing in Mental Ray

Hello, I just have a quick question for maya 2012. I’ve been creating a character and once I added paint effects to the hair curves, every time I render the hair is solid white (glowing with final gather on). I read an older post from a quick google search that I did, and neither changing the scale nor converting to polygons helped. Thanks and all the best.

I don’t know whether you have tried it or not but I would recommend that you should reduce your specular on the shader of hair.Also if you can reduce FG contribution either by reducing bounce or by reducing the FG value, though personally I never used FG with Hair .

Thanks for the reply Yogesh. Hmm, in maya software, the hair comes out okay, but I’d rather not composite the hair on as I fear it would look like just that. I tried turning the specular down in the shading of the hair, but it still came out white in mental ray. How do you usually go about rendering hair? Cheers.

In mentalray usually you don’t need to do anything special for hair but since you are using FG and don’t want to composite Hair,I would recommend under mental ray option uncheck FG receive setting in hairsystem shape node or try to control the settings through mentalray overide options,
I haven’t seen your file or image but I also think that your light intensity might be on higher side.
