Did another Substance Painter Study and tried to focus on ,Storytelling,
Overwatch Themed Gun Design
Overall it’s very nice, but I am not convinced by the wear and tear of the paint. It looks too much like it was applied by an algorithm and not a reflection of “real-world” wear. You don’t get wear on every single hard edge, especially if the surfaces adjacent to that edge are almost on the same plane. In such a situation any impact would be more of a glancing blow and less likely to scrap the paint. Then there’s your “Game over” logo which also reveals the underlying metal, yet is perfectly crisp and neat with no wearing at all. It looks strange.
As a general rule consider how the thing you’re texturing is to be used and handled. The front and back ends, and any projecting structures are more likely to be worn than sheltered areas or flatter parts. For example, where the large red cylinder attaches to the rest of the gun at either end, the diameter reduces and those edges, while hard, are perfectly safe from impact yet they are totally scratched up.
Agree with the person above, was intending to write similar post, but emphasize the part where metal meets wood handle. Im wondering who is there no paint on the edge that is so well protected.
The trigger part is also confusing one. Why are there alot of scratches just in that part. Was someone trying to jam a blade into the trigger hole? While plausible, but very unlikely imho.
And last what got my atention was the front metal part that was completely without paint (just the tip had chipped paint). It stands out so much that either its not suposed to have paint or you just forgot it, since there are edges that go inside and are rather well protected.
