New faces. . . lots of wicked cool stuff done in AM. A few heated debates and wickedly funny comments thrown in for spice. Its really starting to get interesting.
I’m thinking. . . (yea I know. . . never a good idea). Maybe we could start our own little image or animation contest. Get some of the more amazing artists in here to judge it. Make posting WIP images part of the rules etc. . .

I’m in favour but I’m pretty bad at actually getting stuff done without someone bashing me on the head so no guarantee about participation and such 
makes a noble effort not to mention issues with the hash contest that certainly aren’t going to come up with a contest judged by artists

I might be in for that. Depends on what the Contest is and what the Topic is. Because I suck at animation and am not too good with the mechanical, but other than that, and maybe some time, I think I’d be in.

It would be nice if we could vote for what the compatition tiltle is. There could be a list of subjects in a pole, we get some time to vote, then we are off.
We could use it as a way to test what can be done with new features (eg hair). People request that on the list but it never happens.
Lets think of some topics then.
I’d really love to do something under a theme that could potentially lead to a cooperative project.
Like. . .
Battle Angel rollerball character.
Or . . .
New Transformer Character.
Or. . .
Scarry Alien.
Or. . .
Fairy Tale Character.
That kind of thing.
Topics like “Deep” are too. . . vague for me. :shrug:
If you want collaboration then how about something like “the seven deadly sins” or “The Chimeras” or “The nations of the world”.
We could do it in phases. First people model things. We end up with a collection of models. Then we get them rigged, then composed and lit. Maybe we even get story boards done and then animated.
It could be a big flop but if we do it one stage at a time then we could end up with something realy good.
See I’m thinking even those are too vague.
seven deadly sins? I wouldn’t know what the heck to do. . .

I’m thinking REAL specific. So whatever is built would all sit in the same universe and may spark ideas for cooperate stories like you say.
Here are the seven deadly sins as I remember them:
Greed
Avorice
Glutony
Covertice
Anger
Vanity
errr… and another one. There is a book on Paul Cadmus that has his enterpretation which is exellent. Basically, Gluttony is a Fat creature eating away and bursting at the seems. Vanity is an ugly woman rotting away as she looks in the mirror. That kind of thing.
A chimara is a creature that is made of other animal parts. Eg. the griffin is half eagle, half lion. There were some exelent examples on spy-kids 2 like “spider monkey” etc.
Nations of the world could be portraits of different world leaders. Plenty of subject matter for a story there. Could end up in a big argument though.
Basically, I am thinking that it would be good to suggest something that would involve the creation of a range of characters that fit but don’t follow the kind of forms that you see so often in cg. Morality is a good place to start if you are going to make an animation.
Anyway, enough of my banter.
No no. . . these ideas are good.
We just need to come up with a range of subjects that people would like to get involved in that aren’t too open to interpretation.
I just. . . can’t think of anything good right now.
Storybook characters could be kind of fun. We could create a fun new story based on what people chose.
Kind of like one of those Ren and Stimpy episodes where he just makes it up as he goes.
