OT: Video Copilot Optical Flares plugin

#1

I guess many of us, when dealing with lens flare effects, try to do them in After Effects or such by using Knoll’s Light Factory Pro or similar plugins.

I’d urge you to take a look at this one, Video Copilot’s Optical Flares plugin. It has something I was trying to replicate procedurally in AE, to no avail: changing the flare’s properties when it crosses the image frame limits without keyframing, via what they call dinamic triggering .

One wishes EIAS was able to interface with it.

I, too, have been disappointed at my attempts to generate effects that are easily done with this plug. Very nice!

Andrew Kramer is that guy’s name, I think. He’s very talented.

Being able to swap out the generic flares with textured ones, dirt on lens, streaks, etc. looks very nice. Price is attractive as well.

Andrew is great to listen to, informative and very funny. His take on how to get the money to buy the plugin Particular is hilarious.

Very nice indeed, when compared with the incredible price on Knoll Lensflare Pro is just amazing how much Andrew helps your pocket as well.
Thanks Andrew you have my vote.

I bought this last night, and from the short time I’ve played with it, it’s well thought out, and covers pretty much all the bases.

I’ve used KLF for a long while, but this is really on a different level.

How does it behave when tracking, say, white dots on black background to apply flares on them?

Linky please?

It’s pretty much the same as KLF, you can provide it with footage to use, and it will track flares to that based on (I think) luminance.

It shows it on some of the demo videos.

Steve,
I remember seeing your demo reel few years back. Impressive work. Was any part of it done with EIAS?
And so it doesn’t look like I’m highjacking the thread, I should add that Andrew Kramer from Videocopilot
http://www.videocopilot.net/ made me fall in love with AfterEffects all over again…

Hi,

thanks! No, it was all Max/Combustion.

I’ve had to switch to AE because my job uses it now, and Combustion is pretty much dead (and the AE plugin support is not 100%)

Video Copilot has been a life saver and I hope Andrew has a lot of success with Optical Flares - he certainly deserves it.

Cheers

Steve
