Man i can’t wait to get these so i can start learning messiah… Any other useful Messiah training i should look into???
Ordered the Joe Cosman CDs
I have a full set of Joes CD’s, and to be honest they are pretty comprehensive, covering rigging and animation !
I am very impressed !
Joes CDs are excellent. I have the mini-tutorials and the one on basics of character animation. I can’t recommend them enough.
However, these are not videos that teach you the basics of how Messiah works. You better have a fairly good foundation in how to click around in Messiah and make things work or these videos aren’t going to do you much good.
Robert Newton
While its always best that you know the interface, Joe is pretty good about telling you where to click and most time “why” BUT there always somethings in the videos that he can’t cover but he not that bad.
Well i got the cds that i ordered and the damn things won’t work at all… Pisses me off that when i stick them in they lock up my pc… I have tryed these cds on a couple of different comps with 0% success on any of them… Emailed the guy about 3 times now and no response… I think if all else fails then i will just give up on Messiah in general… Back to Lightwave:sad:
That’s wierd. How can a simple CD lock up a computer? In anycase, I’d give it about a week, Joe could be vacationing, maybe skiing out in Utah or something.
Hey guys.
I´m interested in rigging stuff. And the Mini Tut CD.
Not sure if I need all of them. Is Rigging 1 and 2 that much different or more or less similar?
Or should I wait till Joe comes up with new stuff?
Yeah, and is there at least a little chance someone starts writing the first official Messiah book?
Maybe Wordware as publisher ?
Just dreaming
I’m not sure why the cds are freezing up my pc chikega… Unusual no doubt, but i keep getting a error stating the disc can’t be read from… When i try to explore the cd, and look at the contents that way, it will lock up again… I wannna cry like a baby, cuz i really want to check these things out…
From Joe’s website:
Due to the rigging process, some of the information contained in this CD set is duplicate, and can also be found in the Rigging1Bundle and Min-tutorial CDs. Even though it has similar information, the techniques are up to date with the latest release of Messiah:animate 4 and Messiah:Studio 1.5
So, if you had to choose just one, then Rigging Two would be the one. But there is still some great concepts in the original tutorials that apply to all 3d apps. So, I wouldn’t disregard them entirely.
As far as a book is concerned, Wordware would be a great publisher. But that route would require some upfront investments that I believe wouldn’t work out at this immediate time for the “select” messiah audience. A more modest and viable option would be to use CafePress. I purchased the Animation Master Handbook and was quite impressed. The idea behind CafePress is that they only print the book when someone places an order and they take a percentage off the top. So, it’s a pay-as-you-go kinda deal.
WierdoStudio: Hang in there buddy, it’ll be worth it … it really sucks that they’re not working. You’re the first I’ve heard have a problem.
Let’s see what I can dig up to keep you busy. Have you seen Mike RB’s rigging tutorial?
I would also consider purchasing issues No. 4 and 5 of Render Node, Grzegorz, who was involved in the Fallen Art short, shows how to rig and apply soft body dynamics to a Monk character.
I just got my set of Joe’s CD’s today and they are fantastic!!! Especially the RollingDemos on the Animation CD blew me away. :bounce: Great job Joe!!!
I had some problems with the Rigging1 CD. I copied the whole CD’s to my harddrive so the CD drive doesn’t get so stressed when playing the videos. Some of the video files where really hard to copy. Took me the whole afternoon and three different drives. The weird thing is: the one drive, that read all files after all, didn’t read some files at first and then read some, but didn’t read others it read before and so on. Very strange.
Just keep trying WeirdoStudio!!
That sounds a lot like bad CDs or CDs that don’t play well with the writer, or even a dying laser. Joe, did you try updating the firmware of your CD writer?
With problems like that, it always pays to try the CDs in different drives as Alex said. I encountered this rather often with very old backup CDs…
That CDs lock up windows isn’t Joes fault. The whole CD-handling under Windows feels like one of the last pieces of DOS or Win3.1. The whole system waits for the drive to spin up or - if the CD is hard to read - locks up completely. WTF - isn’t this 2005? :banghead:
Funny sidenote: All my new drives can’t read the Softimage XSI Tutorial DVDs - they lock up the system completely. Only my oldest DVD drive works flawless with them. Crazy.
Cheers,
Thomas Helzle
I tell you what. I have managed to get a few of the lessons off of the cds so i can view them… I really love the way this guy works, but with as much trouble as i have had with these cds i don’t think i will ever order anymore… all the facial rigging stuff i still can’t get off of the cds.
I thought I’d add my $.02. I got Joe’s CD’s today. I’ve only been through a fraction of the videos, but so far I’m impressed. I’ve found Joe’s explanations to be concise and crystal clear. His CD’s are going to save me some valuable time in tying up the loose ends that I’ve been fiddling with in getting up to production speed with Messiah.
BS
However, I have to say that I found Rigging01 far better then Rigging02. Despite the quadruped setup Joe seems kind of absent-minded (the existance of the two addendums seem to prove me right). And I like the way Joe did thing in Rigging01 far better (except a few thing I liked better in Rigging02).
Sorry Joe.
