Opinions on the WildMagic Engine

#1

Hey there fellow programmers. I was wondering if anybody’s tried out developing apps with the Wildmagic Engine. Version 2.02 was released earlier this month, and it’s come along way from the 0.1 version that originally shipped with the book. It’s got skeletal animation and physics code now, but I bet it’s still got a poor renderer. So I was wondering why nobody looks at that engine more often ?

I think it isn’t mentioned much because it is more a set of components than a packaged, relatively complete development platform. It isn’t delivered in a state where most people could pull the pieces together, develop or add in other available components such as sound systems, design-time tools, game logic/ai stuff, and emerge with a viable development system.

It would be interesting, though, to hear if there are any serious development efforts using the library.

See:

for a very interesting thread regarding the search for relatively complete and low-cost solutions for people who would like to experiment with game development but don’t have the time or money to pull such a thing together on their own.
