# openPipeline - seeking beta testers/developers

#1

Hi,

I am looking for people to bang on and provide feedback for a project that we just rolled out:

http://openpipeline.sourceforge.net/

It’s a production pipeline tool for Maya that handles asset management (and asset mastering), revision control, collaborative notes and some basic referencing all done through MEL.

It’s only for windows right now but will be tweaked for Mac and Linux after we work out the general issues. It’s intended use is small animation projects, student films and the like but could grow to have more functionality and appeal. The goal is an open source, free, tool that handles project management with that hope that the animation community will be involved in its creation.

It was started at Eyebeamand is now being completed at the Pratt Digital Arts Research Lab.

Please play around with it and let me know what you think. We are very open to collaborators (which is why it’s on sourceforge) so if you’re interested please drop a line.

Best,
Rob O’Neill

As a follow-up, we are creating some step-by-step tutorials on using openPipeline for Maya. The draft of the first has just been posted:

Thanks for all the feedback so far!

This is a great project! A good initiative that I sincerely hope will take off and get a lot of support from the community.

openPipeline for Maya is now working on Maya for Mac:

Thanks to Paris Mavroidis for the cross-platform fixes!

Feedback is always welcome.

Hello There,

This is really interesting!
I’ve downloaded and installed the version 0.2 (though it says 0.1 in the title bar), but I’ve ran into a bug I think.

I want to delete an “asset Type”, and always get “The syntax of the command is incorrect.”
I’m using Maya 8.0

I would really like to test this thing and eventually use it in the company I work for.
I have some MEL knowledge and would be glad to be of some use.

Thanks,
Pascal.

Hi Pascal,

Thanks for trying it out and the feedback!

Are you running openPipeline for Maya on MacOS or Windows?

Feel free to post bugs to rob [at] morphometric \dot/ com

Best,
Rob

A small update was just released for openPipeline for Maya. It hopefully fixes pascal’s bug (if not email me) that was noted above.

very nice pipeline tool - a thumb nail scene preview will be very nice

We just released version 0.3 of openPipeline.

The response has been great. The feedback and addition of code and ideas by users has really helped shape the project thus far. We’ll actually be presenting the project at Siggraph 2007 and will be setting up a time to have a user group of sorts there.

The current version includes a giant addition of per-project preferences including master and workshop file type designations and more naming customization. Big thanks go out to Paris Mavroidis and Meng Han Ho for all their hard work.

Please have a look and let us know what you think:

We’d like to release the next version as the non-beta version 1.0 to some of the other Maya forums.

Best,
Rob

Lots of new features (asset archiving, and project activity flags to name a couple) and much more behind the scenes plumbing in the underlying architecture. Again, big thanks go out to Paris Mavroidis for his hard work on this update!

Please have a look and let us know what you think (new website too):

Just a note to say that version 0.7.0 of openPipeline is out and ready for download. The much requested thumbnail scene preview added.
