is it possible on nvidia 6800 or 5900 to draw some polygons shaded with colors that is out of [0.0,1.0] range and then get that image with it’s true (not clamped by [0.0,1.0]) values?
thinking about writing some plugins to accelerate compositing with this technique if it possible…

Not sure exactly what cards support it, but you need the NV_float_buffer extension (I think).
You can’t draw directly to the backbuffer in floating-point, but you can draw to an offscreen buffer. If you download the NVSDK from developer.nvidia.com, it comes with several examples of setting up and using floating-point buffers.
