Open Figure Drawing Workshop - Rembrandt Master Copy - with Rebeccak 016

#261

Great work everyone!! I sort of consider mine ‘finished’ now. I know it’s not, but I really wanted to work on the painting style and colours of the face, and I did that. After that, I just couldn’t be bothered with the rest…

I know I’m bad, but a whole painting is just a bit much for me at this point. Anyway, just letting y’all know I didn’t drop out or anything, still watching this with much interest!

[left]Hi everyone…

Glenn, thanks again for the encouragement…I am new to digital paint, and i have a lot to learn…it is allways nice to receive kind words.

Rebecca, thanks for the link…i like a lot Linda´s work, and that tutorial is very helpful…Hey your new piece looks interesting…i like how you begin with a blurry foggy image and put selective focus adding detail where it needs. Thanks for look to my work…

Hiiri…amazing !! really…very well done…and thanks for the comments.

Henrique, thanks a lot for the tips…i am using this grid now…i didn´t knew of it. Very nice and you can set the size with precise units…like cm…or pixels…About painter, i never tried it seriously, i just don´t have the time. Your tips are very useful, and thanks again. BTW i think you are ready to put colors… : ) great work !

Krispee…Thanks…i think you are right, i will correct this…I have to spend maybe more 2 or 3 hours on this piece to correct things like this and finish the render.

I am an reader of this forums for along time…since 2002…
The work here is amazing, and is a pleasure for me to take part of this.

Have a nice weekend

Daniel

rebecca: yeah, what`s up with your new avatar, is that a texture painting for a character? and is that you behind it or a painting or someone completely different?
or am i barking completely up the wrong digital painting?

im not sure about your update, not sure i didnt like your previous version better, i think it was the focus on just the one part that kind of made it stand out…but hey, what do i know? and this is a study group i guess…
the black piece jutting out from his back makes it look like his elbow…very long forearm lol, but im sure thats part of his cloak isnt it?.....anyway, all looks good, how far are you going with this? i like the blurring around his face......sorry, cant think of anything to crit, your facial anatomy is pretty spot on…

[left]ricma,

Great to hear you're still on board! :)

 Maladie,

You're always welcome to post advice / comments / criticism. :)

 Gomez,

 Thanks, still working. :)

 krispee,

The new avatar is just a silly joke. :D That's me looking vaguely ninja~esque...erm, don't ask. :D

Heh, it's funny, I liked the previous version better too ~ things change fast, and I'll start to add detail again / so hopefully the end product is the best version.

QS,

Thanks, as always.

Here is an update of mine, plus a gif of the process up til now:

A gif of the process so far:

ricma: nice update, like the new detail of the face, looks good except for maybe the size of the nose, seems a little bit big proportionally…good work though…

rebecca: a tidy update, nice extra detail…the gif was a good idea…been looking at your BOXX thread, from what ive heard a seriously speedy pc, going green with envy lol......we cant get those here…i guess you`re using it to produce all this?

Hello everyone! Some great work going on in here! Very inspiring!

Here’s another 45 min or so on mine. I’m sort of carried away with the sketching at this point, so I’m not sure I’m going to try and tackle “painting” it… might just wait for the next workshop for that.

kris,

Thanks for the comments! I’ve been extraordinarily lucky with the BOXX thing, and I would frankly not be able to even paint at 300 dpi were it not for my BOXX. So I’m very happy.

ThreedyModeler,

This is really looking good! Keep pushing the value construction ~ the one thing I would say proportion~wise is that perhaps the upper arms look a bit short? You may want to elongate your canvas and move the arms down just a bit. Keep up the good work!

EDIT: Update:

Cheers,

DrawMonger.
I like it very much, hope u take this further along.

Here is mine, I did some little work at all around, and add color to the habit, hope u like it, thanks

#274

drawMonger!

It’s fantastic to see you back! I hope you had the chance to see your work highlighted in the SPOTLIGHT Forum:

SPOTLIGHT: Best of the Artistic Anatomy and Figurative Art Forum

If you run a search for your user name, you should find your work in several of the threads there, particularly the OFDW threads.

Great start, looking forward to seeing this develop!

Enrique,

Thanks for your comments! Looking great so far, a nice combination of carefully placed values and a bit of texture. Looking forward to seeing how you find that balance…as I’m going to have to start exploring the texturing bit too, without going overboard as with the previous study. Keep up the good work!

Cheers,

~Rebeccak

rebecca: nice fine detail coming on in those hands, very good…whats the very light patch over the ruffles, is that meant to be there? ive looked at the BOXX pcs and they look the business, fantastic on the graphics, way too expensive for me  .....i do have a twin processor pc but its just a basic version, at least i can do 300 dpi stuff.

drawmonger: good start, is this in photoshop using the pen?

enrique: love the cloth detail and texture, really nailed that, looks very interesting with the ghostly contrast of the face…you probably told me but i can`t remember whether you were going to add colour to that?

SPOTLIGHT: Best of the Artistic Anatomy and Figurative Art Forum

Rebecca! this is great!!..it is so good to see the final works for the workshops in the one place. It’s clear that you’ve put a bucket load of work into this and also the reorganisation of the Artistic Anatomy and Figurative art section  :scream::scream::scream:

#278

kris,

I understand what you mean about computers being expensive. It’s pretty tough to keep up with technology these days, I spent around 2 or 3 years paying off the one I bought from a previous employer.

If you are interested in a BOXX, you should contact Ed Caracappa, who is a very active CGTalk member and one of the nicest people you will come across. BOXX stations are completely customizable to your needs, so if you wanted, you could contact Ed, let him know what you would use a system for, and he could tell you what your minimum requirements would be and what that might cost. I’m sure he would not mind, and you don’t have any obligation to buy a BOXX by requesting a cost estimate based on your required specs. /sales pitch.

Enrique,

You’re welcome!

drawMonger,

Thanks! You’re so right, it’s great to see the OFDW final pieces collected together ~ after each OFDW, I sort of felt as though it was anti~climactic, as we just moved on to the next after people put such hard work and effort into them. I just hope that past OFDW participants get the chance to see the OFDW work SPOTLIGHTED in the new sub~forum.

Azabache,

It’s great to see you aboard here! Really looking forward to seeing your next steps. Still another week 1/2 to go!

Cheers,

~Rebeccak

azabache: nice one, although the colours seem a little washed out, perhaps that`s just my monitor…what app did you do this in, if i may ask?

rebecca: thanks for the plug  ill certainly look into it but i was under the impression that BOXX were a US company, perhaps im wrong? anything bought from there(certainly with that size of object) would be hit by UK import duty, thats a big ouch let me tell you  ill have a look at their website and take it from there, cheers again…
