[left]Hi SpiritDreamer, thanks a lot for your comments on my try…I am starting another one and i will try to do a better work on the proportions…BTW…your work is very good…i just saw your anatomy thread and it is amazing…
Enrique…thanks for the comments…I will really try do to this grid on the next one. You have some easy way to draw this grid ? PS has this kind of tool, or you have to draw it ? Hey your picture seems good, you will add colors on the face ? i saw your tutorial about…i think was a caravaggio copy, and it was really helpful…Thanks again
Daniel

[left]Ok…this is my progress on " Titus van Rijn in a Monk’s Habit"…

[left]This time i did a line drawing and used a PS grid in the begining to help with proportions.
The original picture has a lot of textures…textures from painter´s style and some textures from time… I really don´t know how to copy or simulate these textures…i am using only a round brush with sharp edges…Does anyone has any clues on how to achieve these textures with PS ?

Hi…Enrique…nice start…I think that one of the keys to the greatness of his paintings is
the tiny but mighty little off white highlights that he pricks into, and drags over the surface
of the dark areas of the painting…around eyes, nose, cloth…ect…these really bring the painting to life, and make it sparkle…as small and seemingly unimportant as they may seem,
I think they are the paintings greatess strength…just my opinion though…
Was thinking, you
know, that first Carivaggio painting of yours, is going to be a hard one for you to top…LOL…YOU SET YOUR BAR
PRETTY HIGH WITH THAT ONE…But just take your time, and really see what is there, and
I am sure you will be able to top it…![]()

Hi…Gomez…Thank you
I don’t know the brushes in photoshop, but you can probably just experiment with them all
on top of the right colors until you get the effect you are seeking…experiment…
LOOKING GREAT SO FAR…![]()
TAKE CARE
Glenn
Wow, the progress here by everyone is amazing!
Gomez,
Regarding textured brushes in PS, check out the first few posts of this Tutorial:
Your piece is looking great ~ keep up the good work!
Cheers,
~Rebeccak
Hm, I think I’m done. I started getting into the details of his beard but luckily I realised you can’t see that when it’s zoomed out, hehe. I feel like doing a Bouguereau copy next. Something with feet in them, I’m terrible at those.

Not too many noticable changes from the last version, but here’s a bigger version
ricma: I really like how the collar/neck area is looking. You must have a lot of patience to stipple, I could never ever do it. Like everyone else said, get started on the face!
Gomez : I can’t see your first post, how odd. I think you did a great job. The drawing is slightly off but the painting by itself is beautiful.Great work on the second one too, the colours are spot-on!Just one crit though, check his right(our left) side of the face, you can see a little less of it in the original, it sort of changes the angle of the face.
Cyanid : I like how it is turning out. I think the forearm should be slightly thicker though.
krispee : I agree about capturing the expression, you’ve done a good job! I think if the background was a little more greenish, it would really help the skin tones to pop up more. Are you going to do more?
DigitalSol:
I love the modelling of the face! The shadow on the cheek is a little hard though.I’m eagerly waiting for the colours !
hiiri: beautifull! the facial expression is really good! I changed the arm a bit, better now?
the reds really bring this painting to life I think.
somebody has a good tip/tutorial on clothing?

Daniel.
Hey, looking really good, seriously it likes me, BTW thanks for looking at my tutorial :), I will add the colors sonn as I finish all the underpaint, thanks again.
When I use a grid in photoshop I use the default grid, that is at View_show_grid.

that works better if you make a proportional new document to work in.
As for the texturing, I dont know to use painter as well as other users here I usually work ts PS but, If you have a PSD or whatever file and take it to Painter, and make a new layer above all, and mark the checkbox, PICK UNDERLAYING COLOR, at the layers palette, and in that new layer paint with a brush like thick oil bristle without resat (0%), you will add texture but not the color, I don’t know if I was clear but here is an image
hope this was usefull.
Glenn.
Will try the little highlights thing, I think the same, I will try to give more time to the paintings, is just that im not so much patient, but I swear, will try, thanks for the advise, Im really thankful.
Hiiri.
Thanks for your comments, really taking note on these.
I love the paint, congratulations on this one, your is the most close to the original in my humble opinion. I have downloaded the bigger version, and it’s wonderful, I will really look for your next piece, congratulations again. :applause: :arteest:
Cyanid.
When I paint clothes, the best way I paint them is, paint with hard edged brushes and then I smear in some areas with this smudge settings

that’s the best way I know, hope it helps, your piece is really on the right way, I haven’t see your reference pic, but I would try to add some darker shadows at some areas at face.
Here is the progress of mine.

Everyone is doing such a great work
gomez:like it, nice loose feel to the clothes, the face is well done but maybe a little darker around the eyes, especially the right one(left as you look at it), blending in with the shadows…
hiiri: very nice work on this, good overall proportions and i like the tones and colours of the face…can`t think of anything to crit…no time to do any more for a moment, but will do more eventually…
enrique: ah, thats what you meant by painting the texture, very interesting, ill give it a try…looking good but are you going to add some colour to the face?
kris
I hope that was usefull kris, if u try it, can u post the result?.
HeheheI still havent finish the underpaint, after I finish it I will add color to all the paint, thanks for look at my work.
Art2, Cyanid, DigitalSol, Krispee : thank you!
Cyanid: The reds are really helping the image. As for the cloth, you seem to be pulling it off well, so I’d just advise you to continue in the same direction. The shoulder/arm part seems to be a little off when compared to the original. I like how you divide the shade/light. ![]()
DigitalSol: Oh I didn’t know of the grid, hahah. I’m such a n00b. The texture tutorial isreally interesting! I don’t have Painter IX though sighs. It seems like a lot of fun.
More great updates! ![]()
I'm just starting with this one ~ not sure how far I'm going to go, but here is a start at least: :)

rebecca: it has a dreamlike quality to it, usual smooth style, whats not to like :D…are using this as a study for a colour version?
do use photoshop or painter?
kris
Hi kris,
I’m using PS and will hopefully turn this into a color version. Thanks for your comments!
Cheers,
