Open Figure Drawing Workshop - NEW BARGUE - 022

#101

hi folks,

Enrique - the surface structures and reflections are starting to look really nice.

Magdalena - argh! This is awesome! Surely hell of a lot of work, but what strikes me as really remarkable is that you are working on it body part for body part. I always thought people at your level would work on the thing as a whole. I heard that da Vinci worked in a similar manner when painting (don’t know where though…) Keep the momentum!

Glenn - funny… though your latest 3D compositions (two people embracing and interacting) had reached a new level of awesome I was wondering if the painting nerve never tickles you… Good to see it does…

Ori… my main crit would be to not shade your drawing without darkening the surrounding space down. In the original the space around the figure is pretty dark, emphasizing the pale skin of the character. Your values actually are the other way round… dark skin against white bg. That way there is no way you can key the values appropriately.

Having left envelope stage, slowly tip-toe-ing into a block in. I am overwhelmed by the complexity of the pose…

Working pretty large so I have to knit the scans together:

Lordrych - thanks  not yet but it probably will be… so far I’m only using a hard brush with 25% opacity - that’s why the blending’s not very smooth yet…

Mu - thanks  eh when I draw freehand I’d rather work on the whole thing to keep the proportions but since I used a grid to transfer the image onto the canvas I have the proportions pretty much down so I can just go about it like a children’s colouring book  I only did an outline with the grid transfer but I have the grid there as a guide all the time to make sure all the stuff’s in the right place  Ehem I’m not sure I get even up to DaVinci’s toenail height with drawing though :scream:
Looking forward to your interpretation of Jelmer’s model btw!

Puppeli - oh I don’t know… just started doing it like that and it stuck - I haven’t started detailing yet though  - not really…

do i need to change some settings or something, so that my posts will appear immeadetely?

detailing, how i hate this part of the painting process >:(

Here’s some (slow) progress. These rocks are going to be a pain to shade, of this I’m sure.

So here's the final image. I did the best I could tho I'm not too sure on how to make it more detailed. Guess I still have a long way to improve my skills. Anyway hope to get more helpful comments on it.
