Ransom, that looks great so far, you might want to save this version before you work on it further  - one suggestion would be to gray the bkgrd so that your values might be judged against a more neutral midground. Keep up the good work.

NR43 - I will put the background in. However, in the past it seems the background causes the edges of my brush strokes on the painting layer to create this whitish haze. I do not know what is causing that. Example in capture below:

You can see the edge along the torso here. Forget the layers on this capture for it is a jpg of the original riff file.

Frejasphere - ansu - KaileighBlue - uziel - Fl3wk - OneDeadCat - SulaMoon:
Seems we all fell in love with Biondina. Very interesting to see how everybody has a different way to begin his painting.

Elliepower: Greetings from the Ruhrgebiet and thank you for your encouragement.

Here is my first update. I still did nothing on the cloths because I am still struggeling with the skin color. I guess it has too much yellow in it. I will try to handle that. Also I think, that her facial expression is a bit too severe. Hmpf.
C&C welcome.

BG - You are right! Since my digital draw, and I heard this in traditional, suggestions to start out in a grey scale other than color has helped me get the blocking of the rendering in. I do not know, maybe you can use this to get you girls clothing down. As you can tell from all my work, I tend to leave my girls naked. There is a reason behind that. I am not good at cloth either. Good job anyhow!

And I´m gonna find the time to join this one
Started with the “Odalisque”, painted the background.

aggie

i was going to say try turning on the “pick up underlaying color” checkbox in the layers dialogue… but obviously you’ve only got one layer, the canvas. unless you painted on a separate layer and then dropped it? in that case try it…

edit: although it’s only an opinion, but I would try to paint on as few layers as needed… and when you’ve got too many layers to your likings (or the likings of your pc, using many layers eats memory)… drop em and start building up a stack again

first time for me to do a master copy, but i’ve got time, so i’m in

I could not post an image. I’ll try again, stage 1. Patrick

#92

Hi all.
Next hour after work.

vivien82: I started out the same way you are working. And I think you can do very well that way. But, I felt by confining myself to the grid and linework I was somehow missing the painting. I didn’t know how else to work though. Now, seeing how digitalsol and rebeccak are working, I loosened up a bit. I will come back to the details in a bit. But now I feel like I am learning more about working the whole painting by relying on the grid less. I think it is coming with time. I’m enjoying the process.

aggie93: Bring in that background!

everyone: I’m looking forward to this coming month as everyone is working.

started on A3 paper but I’m thinking of buying some bigger paper really…
this took me more than 2hrs and several attempts

had to do a lot of proportional corrections pff… not as easy as it looks this one…

shyamshriram good to see you here… of to a great start I see
killermachine nice… he’s carrying a heavy load already it seems
xiannc wow really looking forward to see that one developing

Ok, i think i’m finish with the line drawings. My first steps usually involves quick, opacitated( is that a word) think brush sketches,

Then lines drawings, then paint. However, this time i kinda got carried away with the face and started to paint it in grayscale.

The face doesn’t look right for now. She looks too asian,…i kinda like it…and might keep it that way… Oh well, we’ll see when i start painting it in color. The problem i have is that I’ll have the tendency to make an artwork look like my own style, i know, it’s bad. Then i make it look original in the final pass. I dunno, just something that i do…

BTW, shyamshriram [color=White]your line drawings looks superb. It looks just like the original!

kuraudo - Yours is looking so great. Do you have any problem with proportions when you get detailed in an isolated area then go to another?

Killermachine - I like the way you colored yours then erased around the edges. That is a different concept for me to input.

xiannc - I will add the background. I hope she turns out as nice as everyone elses.

#99

and another step

:edit: changed the colors

@kuraudo: nice work :slight_smile:
