Amaryllis: I think it’s coming along well, you’re doing good at making it have a painterly feel. I think what SpiritDreamer said is correct though, darken up your colors more, also they are more saturated in the original image. For instance his skin tone, it’s a little more orangey yellow in some spots, also note the more highly saturated darks around his head/hair.
And good job to you too architectus, it’s looking nice!
eduart just add some noise and you’re done no? Wonderful painting!
Rebeccak good to see how your piece is developing. Very easy to the eye, your style… it sort of has a calming effect on me. I think her chin is too short and too pointy though…
reaveress Thanks! Working on her presence
Don’t forget about her forehead in yours… also bring her chin a bit forward (our left side) if you can
amaryllis the nose seems too short and I think that’s why you’ve painted the whole face a bit too short. Too late to fix but I thought it was worth mentioning. Looking forward to see your progress… a few warm tones will really bring it alive!
architectus I agree with Glenn that swann is just marvelous. I actually like it’s beak better than on Lord Leighton’s piece. But you’re gonna have a lotta work on that dress.; it looks like a pain to paint
Glenn Congrats on finishing! It’s really really wonderful! thanks for inspiring us all again!
Been painting all weekend so finally making some progress on this one. Stil far away from home though and with school starting again tomorrow I can totally forget about making it by wednesday. Oh will, gone to far now not to finish it (just not in time)

rebeccak looking good, the necklas is very detailed.
glenn, It turned out really nice.
nr43- looking good, the shirt looks very nice. You can easily compete in terms of quality.
Glenn, Intervain, and architectus,
Thanks!
Pretty much done with the jewelry - there was some MASSIVE cheating with the pearls.
I’ve avoided the lace for as long as I can…I guess it’s up next. Yikes.

Really great work on this page. This might be my final version. It has still a lot of problems and the more i keep working on it, the more I’m finding. But I think I learned my part out of it.

Beccak you clever woman - have you duplicated one pearl over and over again, or am I seeing things?! I want to know how you got them so pretty! :deal: :bounce: [sheesh I’m a 3d person and I havent’ thought of doing it in 2 :banghead: dumbo!]
Vulturius - the colours are perfect - the figure is very elongated and narrow right now! you need to make her wider [liquify tool in photoshop will do that for ya nicely
- i love that one :D] don’t give up!
NR43 - great! C’mon YOU CAN DO IT! anyway will be waiting for you to finish deadline or not! IT’s so close now!
Glenn - WEEE! DONE!
great job!
Spirit Dreamer and Roja - thank you for your suggestions. You’re right - it needed to go darker, more saturated and warmer. The brightness/contrast fix in Painter was a good suggestion - a kind of nudge to get me going in that direction.
NR43 - The length of the nose and face is defintiely worth checking out. I’ve had the grid turned offf for a while now - so it could definitely be the case of the shrinking head…
Rebecca - the detail work you are doing on the drapery and jewelry is just drop dead gorgeous. Wow.
Spirit Dreamer - Congrats on finishing. It’s been great to see the progression. I know this is a question that may not be answerable - but - how do you know you’re done?
Here’s my latest update - still much to do:

hey this is off topic, but do you guys know a good dvd that teachings traditional oil painting, how to paint people.
architectus, see the links at the bottom of this post.
amaryllis, thanks for the compliments! Nice progress on your piece as well.
Intervain, thanks! Heh, yep, just the same pearl - really easy to paint, just a midtone circle, a bit of bounce light, and a highlight, plus a shadow.
Then, duplicate like mad.
Wow Rebecca! That’s some crazy fine detail you have put into this project. I wish I knew how to render that smoothly.
I’ll have to take your word that you cheated, because it looks AOK to me
OK, I’ve been so busy/lazy recently that I’ve been slacking on my Titan pic.
After posting my first sketch I haven’t been spending any time on this project. Tonight I sat down scrapped the original flats I posted and painted a new version. I was surprised with how quickly this came together. Only an hour and forty mintutes were spent. Must mean I’m starting to get the hang of this digital painting. Practice does make perfect.
At this rate I should be done by the Wednesday deadline(I hope!).
I was wondering if anyone had any tips on texturing this. Something to make it seem more like stone. Different texture brushes are still uncharted waters for me.
Well enjoy what I have so far.

Johan, Magdalena, Amaryllis, architectus…THANKS…
Amaryllis…I know I am done, when Mrs Spirit Dreamer says she is tired of posting the same image…LOL… or when I run out of paint…
I think I might be able to squeese one more post out of her tonight…I worked a little more on his collar and shirt…got rid of the yellow /gold tint…makes it look wrong,…too destracting, but such a pretty color…
But seriously…I think you are done, when you satisfy the need that drove you to paint it, to begin with…
REALLY NICE PROGRESS ON YOURS BY THE WAY…![]()
TAKE CARE
Glenn
HEY…architectus…:bounce: :applause: ![]()
BEAUYTIFUL…
Really like the way you kept the softness alive in it.
That’s what makes that painting so beautiful to begin with…FANTASTIC JOB…![]()
TAKE CARE
Glenn
Hi,
@SpiritDreamer wow…looks cool…though the hand is smaller than how it should be and I didn’t like how you rendered the clothes…![]()
@architectus wow … wow … it looks perfect … the only thing that I can add is that it is a litle bit blury … more crispy edges would be nice … but is owesomne!
great job guys!

Simply Amazing! too bad I have to run off to school… I would have looked at it a bit longer
Had about an hour so I started fixing the face (Thanks Anand!! golden tip, I hope I see it myself next time… a bit sooner
)

It still needs some work but it’s better already I think (her right eye is a tad too wide… fixing that should make it possible to get the face right)
More soon…
phew… finally the holidays end… and so does the sketch… well i hope this aint too bad to be counted as an entry  … this is my first workshop and i would like to mention tht it was a fun experience… i have never devoted so much time in ne of my sketches… it really taught me the vertue of patience
thnx every1
Neways… heres the entry…
Choice 11:
Lambert-Sigisbert Adam (1700-1759)
Neptune Calming the Waves
Marble, 1737
Musée du Louvre, Paris
Medium : Pencil

(i used photoshop to put a black background and adjusted the contrast of the sketch to match with the black shade… thts all… the rest is all pencil… )
Here is my final rendering for this workshop.
Made an executive decision not to worry about the rock and the texture of the stone skin. Mostly because this is about anatomy, not geology. I like the smooth look of it just how it is.
Well it’s been loads of fun and quite a learning experience.
Hope you like the final product

In case I needed to include this -
