awesome job everybody!

slickgreekgeo - beautiful, subtle colours!

gilgamesh828 - how did you get so far in just 2 steps I’ll never comprehend  Awesome job!

architectus - thank you

Roja - fantastic result!

eduart - I’d go for black bg… MHO  still it’s so gorgeus that it doesn’t really matter

I finished the pink portrait [think her head is too big  but enough!] and touched up some stuff on the blue one [she looks drunk still ;)]. So I’m done I guess… well the 3d one’s not finished but I’m afraid it will never get there…

here are my final pieces:

Hi,Thank you all for your feedback!

@SpiritDreamer I’ve made it in photoshop (CS 2…but the version doesn’t matter much) … I’ve seen your anatomy thread and I’ve get your idea … I’ll try to at the final to adjust the hue of the image … and thanks!
nice work you have done there… I hardly wait you to finish it and give it some crispy edges

@Intervain Thanks! after counting the “vote” I’ve decided to go with the black background … because I won’t complete my idea with waves within the deadline … and it is easier : ) ) )
wow…your finish works are great…though I think they are a bit too “overexposed” expecialy on the pink portrait … the wrist of the pink portrait has something not qiute well and the dress highlights I think should be more flat …
you’ve made them so fast!
I admire your details … so beautifull
I love the left hand of the blue portrait … though fist finger (or however is called the finger with wich you point at something … my poor english :frowning:  ) is more straight than the original painting … but I’m too melodramatic … the copy shouldn’t be perfect (because you might go to Louvre to expose it : ))))

overall the works are just great!

sorry for being so hard with the criticsm and I hope you won’t be upset on me … I try to be constructive and I’m sure that you’ve already seen them but due to the limited time you’ve let it like this

@Roja
nice work! I like it a lot!
being again hard ctitic … I think the contrast between the background and face is too low (a more black background) and the cheek is a litle bit too flat … tha angle of the chin is not quite the right one … the shadows of the “T-shirt” (I don’t know the real name of the thing she is wearing : P) could be more smooth
overwall nice work!
oh … I like the wip … thanks!

@all … keep up the great work!

and I invite you all to criticize my work … I really need some : P

Superb work everybody! I have learned so much from all your posts here. Keep it up guys

Anyway, new years resolution for me is to become more active on CGTalk. I was always a bit shy to do anything here because I never thought my work wasn’t up to par. But, I’m working hard and this year I hope to make a giant leap forward in my art self teaching!!

I’m facinated with colour choices here. I’ve always been told a warm face has to be balanced with cool shadows, but generally in these paintings, shadows (or halftones) just become a more neutral and slightly less saturated version of that colour. Any ideas? Or do my eyes need some more training?

This painting is me trying to re-adjust myself again to Painter. I started in Photoshop.

Thanks so much everyone, all the best in 2007!

Roja you might want to fix that upper lip. It looks as she is angry now. However… you’ve created an amazing painting! Far better than I could do

Magdalena, Glenn, Annette, Razz, Architectus.… jee… looking at your work I realize how green I am behind the ears! ultra inspiring work you guys!

Well, I’m almost embarassed to show my own progress so far lol

obviously there is a loooot to do left

#485

Hi,
I’m at the final touches… waiting for opinions…

[left]The level of work being produced here is simply astounding!

Slowly getting back into the swing of things after the holidays: :)[/left]

Eduart & NR43: Thanks for the critiques, you’re probably both right on many of those points…I’m just tired of the piece at this point and need to move on. I do realize and see it’s not as close to the original as it could be, and I know I could work it more if I wanted to. But I did learn new things about painting and also using painter, and those were my main goals

Eduart: The only small thing that stands out to me a bit are the brush strokes are too visible in some spots, maybe smooth them out more? I don’t know, maybe it’s better the way it is…but they seem to be a bit distracting. My eye keeps thinking for it to be really smooth, sculpture like.

NR43: It’s looking good, especially the folds on the cloth, keep going with it!

RebeccaK: looks great so far!

#488

Hi,
@Roja yes…you’re right … it looks more like a painting copy than like a sculture copy … I’ll try to make it smoother but is a bit hard for me because I’m always used to leave a brush stroke visible … thanks

@Rebeccak … wow … incredible smooth … so smooth that gives me an unreal feeling … hardly wait to see it finished

Edd

thanks guys - eduart - oh no probs! I actually agree with your crits whoeheartedly but I’ve had enough LOL and I’m not touching those two lasses any more  They’ll have to remain that way! I especially agree about them being too bright [particularly the pink one … sigh… time to say enough I think!]

Great choice on the bg btw. black looks good!

Johan - YAY - keep going, she’s looking great!

Rebeccak - awesome! If I could say one thing that annoys me - it’s the fingers, they look a bit ‘wavy’, the shadows make them look unnatural in shape, like they’re smudged out too much…

More everyone! MORE!

Eduard…AMAZEING JOB…I like the brushstrokes myself, and the fact that it looks like a painting of a sculpture…brings it to life,…just my opinion though…
If I were to make a suggestion …it would be to maybe give the upper hand in the painting a little more detail where it is wrapped around the handle of the fork…it’s a little light in that spot.Maybe a little more of the top knukles of the hand showing, and the muscle between the thumb and the first finger bulging a little…might add to the strength of his grip on that handle.
maybe a little more of the wrist bone showing also…just minor details…You have really managed to capture the power and movement, in a great way…FANTASTIC, and a real pleasure to see…

Rebecca…TOTALLY BEAUTIFUL, AND TOTALLY YOU…:bounce: …She has the look of the Mona Lisa about her…love it…:scream:

Magdalena…Didn’t think I would, but I do like the lady in pink better than the lady in blue.
They are both beautiful paintings though, and you did a fantastic job with both…Quess I am just a sucker for those warmer colors in the pink one, the prettier smile, the subtle lighting,
and the greater depth and atmosphere you achieved with it…BEAUTIFUL WORK… :applause:

Thanks …Johan /NR43…Really looking forward to seeing that face, after seeing how you handled that cloth…should be great I think…

IronhideNT…BEAUTIFUL BRUSHWORK AND USE OF COLOR…CREATING A REALLY NICE MOOD AND FEELING THERE…GREAT JOB…

Roja…For being new to PAINTER, I would say you did a FANTASTIC job on her… …you can always just adjust the brightness and contrast, found in the effects section at top of menu in painter…go tothe tonal control settings there and play with the two sliders, …will give you a darker background, and richer skin colors ect…might be worth the experiment…

architectus…GREAT JOB SO FAR…I think that it might benifit from some intense colors though…is looking a little on the MUTED side …needs a little of that neon glow in there, to make it pop with luster and life…just my personal opinion though…:scream:

REALLY BEAUTIFUL WORK EVERYONE, AND TRULLY VERY INSPIRERING…

TAKE CARE
Glenn

@Intervain ya…I know what you mean…I know the feeling… thanks

@SpiritDreamer thanks for the your suggestion…there is something not right at the hand grip…I’ll fix it… thanks again

Eduart:
Your mastery of grayscale is fenominal i could have sworn that that is a photo!
NR43:
Great clothing, im afraid i cant really get the feel of your picture just yet because theres no character there, im weird like that. But your attention th folds and values is lovely. IronhideNT: The colours are definitely vibrant although not quite true to the original. The highlights around the lips and on the nose, the brow are too cold, the lips look as if shes heavily into lipstick, i think it would be better to make them slightly lighter and place a highlight on the bottom lip a little more boldly. And another minor thing-the ear really grabs attentionas its more saturated that any other place
Im doing the same piece, ive spent only a couple of hours on it…

#493

I continue to be amazed and impressed!

Eduart - I agree, the black background really allows the image to pop off the page. I also like to see brushstrokes. Even though we’re copying, I like to see a little of the personality of the copier coming through.

I have to say, I’m really wrestling with this Carravaggio. I’m pushing myself to be more painterly with this and also to add color as I go with the paint. So - the changes are : defining the hand, adding color to the wing on the left and some of the background and beginning to add color on the figure. There are some areas where the color is dropped in, but not blended yet.

I’m up for feedback, if you would be so kind…

#494

Raja nice work

Rebeccak, cool there you are, looking good.

spiritdreamer thanks, I will try to boost the colors some. I really want to match the painting as close as possible colorwise. I am getting lazy with other stuff, it just takes to much work to get all the folds in the clothes exact, and the patterns on the clothes.

#495

Hi…Amaryllis…

I like the smile so far…captured it nicely…
You are a little on the light side with your colors at the moment…I think that if you darken the values just a tad, and increase the saturation just a tad,…your colors will be pretty close to the original…done in EFFECTS…under TONAL CONTROL …/ BRIGHTNESS AND CONTRAST.
in the PAINTER #9 program that I work with,…not sure what program you are using.
On the wings, if it were mine, I would get the darkest colors in there first, and work my way up to the lights…just a thought that might be of help to you, and make your life easier…
Anyway, keep going,…it’s coming out great so far…

Glenn

Now to make those peacock feathers shimmer and vibrate with luminosity…color color color… :scream:
GREAT JOB…LIKE THE SOFTNESS YOU GOT IN HER BLOUSE,FACE ect. THE SWAN IS FANTASTIC…
TAKE CARE
Glenn

#498

architectus - great to see that you’ve been inspired to try harder with the detail - it’s looking awesome! Can’t wait to see it finished
