Open Figure Drawing Workshop - Mixed Masters - 020

#421

Hi all

Christmas got in the way  and haven’t had much time lately - so it’s going to be an interesting first few days of the new year as far as finishing goes

So many lovely pieces and great work from all you guys

A small update: her mouth is off at the moment - mainly worked on her blouse and some highlights on the left side (looking at) of her face. Hoping to find more time very soon as it’s a great workshop!

acrylic on canvas

sorry about the photo quality…

Take care all and cheers!

Also: HAPPY NEW YEAR!!! :wavey: (incase I don’t get to update before - and we do have a slight headstart to the new year this side of the world  )

My turn.

I started my own rendition of the ā€˜Titan’ pic. Here is the quick sketch and my first laying down of flats. More to come, though it will be slow going since I’m a PS novice.

krispee - thank you and wow, she’s great! Would have been nice to see some colour on those perfect lines now:thumbsup:

pushav - great to see you join it the fun!

FateBringer - the hair’s just stunning! I love it so much [pard me I’m a hair person LOL, kinda obsessed with it :scream:] I have a slight problem with the nose, the nostrils seem to be starting down too low… otherwise great job :applause:

getting nearer the colouring stage, decided to speed up with it so the dress is not perhaps as good as it could be  [there’s one more in-between stage in my thread - didn’t want to post too much here :)]
Oh obviously I cheated with the wallpaper - it’s a texture pattern

#431

Well done everyone,Intervain you should post a close up of that detail work, looks realy good.

So hereĀ“s my final in this one,my respect for these Masters icreased so much, damm is just superb how they did this stuff with such attention a precision to details, values, shapes, etc…i just made a copy and still thereĀ“s so much i could improved itĀ“s amazing.

Choice 02:
Lord Frederick Leighton (1830-1896)
Odalisque
Oil on canvas, 1862
Private collection

Original size
Keep up the good work everyone!

imafo - fantastic work! Truly amazing, especially on the swan. Love the feathers! :bounce:

I agree with you, once you try to copy one of those paintings you gain a whole load of respect for those artists… I’m probably the biggest fan of Ingres alive LOL

here’s some real size detail from mine - just the more interesting [well the lace looks like a lot of dots and swirls which is exactly what it is] parts  - the dress looks like a load of smudges and strokes in close up and works only when you zoom out… [which is how I painted it half of the time - with a very tiny canvas, zoomed out 2x at least and a rather big brush with a substantial falloff - so only the centre really paints, which is what I do anyway… I can’t seem to force myself to paint with smaller brushes…]

#436

Yeah, thatĀ“s what i was talking about ^^ those close ups…superb work intervain!

#437

I just wanted to say how much I’ve enjoyed these. I wasn’t able to participate during this round, but I can’t wait for the next one. I love doing masters’ copies.

#438

Well, I could join just today. Too late, but I couldn’t resist. I got several trobles with my machine, so now I’ve got a new one, I’m here.

I’d started this sketch yesterday. I know I won’t get to the deadline, but I’m here, most of all, to learn.

So, all your crits are welcome.

Here goes my first step:

Choice 04:
Lord Frederick Leighton (1830-1896)
Clytemnestra

Asatira, welcome! I hope that you will participate in the future. Be sure to subscribe to this thread to be notified when a new one begins.

Announcement:

I’m not in the habit of extending the OFDW deadlines, but due to the holidays I’ve extending the final date for this OFDW til the end of the day (in your timezone), Jan. 10 - that gives everyone 5 extra days to work on their pieces.

I frankly didn’t touch Photoshop during the Holidays (I needed a break!) so I hope everyone is okay with this deadline extension.

So: This OFDW 020 officially concludes at the end of the day on Jan. 10th.

Happy New Year everyone!

Cheers,

-Rebeccak

Intervain,

That’s a really gorgeous start on your second piece, I really want to commend you for working so hard in this OFDW in particular! It’s also really nice how much you support everyone around the forums. It’s really appreciated!

My apologies for not being very active in the last week replies-wise, but I have to say that having a break from being around the computer 24-7 was really nice. Back in the saddle today / tomorrow hopefully, looking forward to chugging away / picking up where I left off…it’s really fantastic to see all the great work around here - I hope 2007 will yield just as much amazing work as 2006!

Cheers!
