It’s next door to impossible to catch up with you people!
Corvax – don’t worry about it, I mess up my sketches all the time and then spend half of the time painting and the other half correcting (and thinking why on earth couldn’t I be a little more careful when laying out the initial sketch). But it’s getting there eventually.
Llynna : Nice sketch. It’s got those qualities I like in quick works like this, up to the point where I wish they could stay just like that.
hiiri: nice blocking in, and the textures look good, too. Did you make the brushes, or downloaded them from somewhere?

OFDW 018
Lord Frederick Leighton (1830-1896)
Flaming June
Oil on canvas, c.1895
Never been that good at transparent fabric, so this one will be great practice. Really like the colors on this one so I thought I would give it a shot. And considering it is June and flaming hot where I am at, it seemed appropriate.
Take Care
Glenn
started as thumbnail, to get the rough proportions right…Maybe I better can use a grid, but kinda feels like cheating

i want to start laying down all the darks, so i have nice shadows built up. did some work on the guy, fixed a weird thing on one of the Nymphs and about 10 minutes of greenery and picking my colours. can’t wait to start on those lillypads oooh. :bounce:

Womball,
Sounds good, would definitely like to see your 2D version here.
Queensoul,
Would I ask you a trick question?
Honestly, I really don’t care at what point you go digital. You’ll have the masters in Florence when you go for your Workshop to drill the traditional stuff into your head.
Mecha,
A vid sounds fantastic and I can’t wait to see it! :bounce:
Llynna,
Lovely start to yours, and it will be great to see this develop. You didn’t pick the easiest of mediums so it will be interesting to see how you work the drawing using colored pencils. Perhaps at a later point you can take this into a digital phase as well.
hiiri,
Great to see you aboard! ![]()
Glenn,
Of course it’s great to see you here ~ the OFDWs wouldn’t be the same without you!
Cy,
Good to see your start to this. Really go for the subtlety in the tones and rely less on flash to express the form of the figure. Take this as far as you can!
Junpei,
I have a feeling this will be a terrific piece, but don’t feel pressured to work on it too quickly. Remember that there are 4 weeks, so really take time and care and enjoy every step of the way!
Cheers,
~Rebeccak
Rebecca: heh, i have to rush myself otherwise i feel like i’ll never finish, and i might not, i leave too many projects have done it’s starting to scare me O_O. if i finish too soon i’d like to do Cecilia as well
mazalo: looking good so far, thats going to turn out really great!
Hey guys,
I love what you all are doing. And so quickly too. Very impressive. I’m a day late getting started cause the hometown team just won the stanley cup and the party was on the streets till early in the morning. ![]()
So today I did the line work and started making big selections to lay down some flat color. This will be it for tonight.

Woke up at 3:30 in the morning to my dog going off about something and couldn’t got back to sleep. So, instead, I brought the sun up with some color work.
Good starts above, Guys!
Tonight's progress, with threat of snow overnight, so while some of you are sweating to paint, I'm working with cold hands... :)
I started off in colour, but found trouble with it:

Carried on in grayscale and things are looking better (though her head needed to be rotated in PS ...)

Hey, Cyanid:
Maybe I better can use a grid, but kinda feels like cheating
That's what I felt as well, but I tried it out anyway.
CoyoteGuy: Ahh, nice color work, thats how I should have done it
your nymphs also look peaceful, mine more look brooding and dark, I guess Im going for the “come a little closer Hylas…” story, and yours is more the sexual connotation? :wise:
the only thing i would say at this point is that the lighting seems to be off from the original. i did alittle paint over the original to show the light sources, correct me if i’m wrong. there is alot of scattering, expessially with the water, so it might be alittle misleading parts of it. i circled some clear areas were you can see.

Great work everyone, you are moving pretty fast, well, I slow down a bit, for some issues, here is my update, keep up the great job everyone.
Amazing work everyone! I can’t believe how fast you all are! I’m really bummed about not being able to finish the last one, but work deadlines had me slammed to the wall. (Although, hearing how many people were griping about painting tiger fur, maybe I saved myself a headache! LOL!) Things are settling down now at work, the demo’s done… so I should be able to try my hand at some Velazquez!
