Hi

Really great to hear that your on that list too. I think the figures you did here are great.
I was going to tell you that a couple of days ago, but got sidetracked somehow.
I did manage to look at your site though, nice style you have going there, like the way
you put the progressions on there, also like your portraits a lot GREAT STUFF…
Anyway, just wanted to tell you Congratulations… Would be great if somebody from
this workshop got there work in the painter book…Would encourage everyone invlvoled
I think, and give them hope. Anyway wishing you the best of luck, and keep up the great
work, it gets me inspired.

Hi
DrawMonger
You may be right about my painting, now that i’m looking at it with fresh eyes,I can see
those mistakes clearly. Thanks for pointing them out to me, four eyes are better than two
any day.
About your painting…The trick to getting the desired ONENESS in a painting, is to have
one color that unifyies, and can be found throughout the entire painting…THE UNIFYING COLOR… It united all of the elements in your painting, keeps your painting from haveing
that cutout and pasted on look, which is the problem your haveing on this one I think.
Take a color, or colors that are in your figure, and put it, or them, in your background color,
think that will do the trick, Hope this helpes you some, also thanks for helping me on mine. :wavey:

Hi
Pushav
Hey ! it’'s never too late to up the ressolution on your painting, and go into the face with
more detail, in that painterly style your developeing of course. I always start out in low
resolution, then increase it as i go alonge. Put a buitiful face on that model, she and
your painting deserve it. LOL !.. FINISH IT… as Rebecca would say… :buttrock:
Take Care and talk to you later
Glenn

Hey SD, I think you are right. The big lesson i have learned from this one is to treat the foreground and background as a single image right from the start. So will put more thought into a unified image from now on.

I think the best way for me to go for this one is to just remove any background noise altogether.

Cheers!

drawMonger,

Saw your post briefly this morning, and it looks fantastic! Will post some comments later, but just wanted to tell you I think you’ve done a brilliant job so far!

Cheers,

SpiritDreamer -
Thank you so much for your kind words:) As soon as I read that your went to the final as well, I hurried to your website for a look at my competitor  I just love your work. The way you play with colors are absolutely beautiful! I fell deeply in love with one of your paintings - do you sell them? To me?
I haven´t heard anything more from Ballistic, maybe thats a sign I didn´t make to the final printing, but I am so honored to be part of such a incredible bunch of artist just to make it to the final round so I am happy anyway:)
I´m keeping all my fingers crossed for you! I can always tell that "come on - this is what I was up against!

Holy Crap! 008 is up already? Well here is an update! I darkened all the shadow areas and gave the face some extra attention to try and smooth out the features and tried to improve the shading on the legs.

Good work everyone.

Hi Rebecca
Still working on this one. Taking my time.
Want to see how far I can take it.
Loving the straight painting approach you have been pushing me to use.
No special effects on this one. lol
Still haven’t started #8 yet.
Really liked that one pose that you did the work-up for. A classic.
Will get to it soon…as soon as I get over my addiction to this one.
(beautiful model)
When you get a chance let me know what you think.
PS. Any advice from anybody is greatly appreciated as always and goes without saying.
Take care
Glenn

Special to SaraD:
Just curious, which picture did you fall in love with on my site?
In answer to your question, yes I do sell my paintings.
(information on my web site)
I have them printed using Giclee on Canvas method. They come out looking just like oil paintings. You can’t tell the difference. Our printer does a “gallery wrap” method, ready to hang, so framing is optional.

Thank you very much for the compliments on my work.
I think it’s really neat we are both in the running for the book.
Just getting to the final judging is amazing to me.
Gook luck!
Your entries are great!! :bounce:

spiritDreamer - man, that facial expression goes far beyond the reference. You established a likeness, but it seems as if you added feelings/an inner life to the character that weren’t visible for me in the reference. I think that’s amazing.

Hi…MR MU
WOW !
Thank You
I think it is impossible not to project feeling, when working from a model that
projects such beauty… beauty inspireing enough, to want to bring the painting
to life…just my opinion.

#114

Hi
Pushav…THANKS
So tell me, have you upped your resolution yet…best way to get better results,
for that great painterly style your developeing,…it’s the iceing on the cake
that makes it taste so good you know…

Vidar3d,

By no means is this paintover perfect or finished, but I thought it might help to show some areas where your painting could be improved. I think you have done a terrific job so far, and would hope that you would continue to work on it, despite OFDW 008 having opened ~ remembering that all OFDWs remain open indefinitely.

I think the main thing is that in the Ref photo, the model’s head / face has a lot of presence. Adding more highlights to the model’s face will give it more attention and focus in contrast to the darker body ~ and also, I have increased the size of the head and raised it in position to make it a bit more proportional to the body.

[left]Also, you have a really good rhythm in the top part of the body, but the lower part / leg straightens out too much. Notice the exxaggerated S curve of the body that makes this pose so interesting. I tweaked the leg just slightly to give it a more continuous curve, which I think should help the overall pose.

You’re doing a terrific job! Keep working on this, I think you are making some tremendous improvements.

Cheers,

~Rebeccak

Spirit Dreamer,

I’m thrilled to see you working without effects! You’re doing a great job ~ keep pushing those values, and I agree with the others that the face has a lot of presence ~ good work there, as it’s not obvious that the piece has been done from photo reference. Try to make the temperature shifts a bit more subtle, and really push those complimentary colors of blue and orange, pink and green, etc…grayed down colors are ace in my book!

Looking good, keep tweaking.

Cheers,

~Rebeccak

#117

SpiritDreamer, the eyes are fantastic! but do you think their axis of alignment might be little bit off?

#118

Good point, drawMonger, and thanks for the drawover!

SD, I agree, there is something funny there. Quickly double check your axes, and perhaps move things around a bit for better alignment.

Cheers,

~Rk

Hi DrawMonger
Scanned in some examples.
On a 3/4 view the eyes, nose and lips are contained within an elipse. They are not on a straight plane and therefore they don’t line up as if they are. The farthest eye is smaller in length and the corner where it meets the nose is not even with the eye closest to the viewer where that eye meets the nose. I checked and corrected the eyes to the point where they look correct to me and if they are off ever so slightly I don’t think it warrants change. After all you should never sacrifice what is looking fantastic just for accuracy’s sake. Just my opinion.
Thanks for the help and observations concerning my painting. Really appreciate it and will always welcome it. And hope that I can be of some help to you in the future also.
Take care
Glenn
