one fellow with a sword

Hi everyone, this is my first post on CGtalk.

Please leave some crits if possible, I want to improve my painting skills as much as I can.

Its not to shabby . The only problems I would point out is the forarm holding the sword seems a bit bent . The right arm is to big .

It’s a good start, but here are my crits (don’t take them personally, and I’m not an expert):

Abdomen – The washboard abs are off center to the left. I think it may be too much detail anyway. You probably wouldn’t be able to see that much definition through his shirt. My suggestion is to indicate where his ribcage ends and leave out those finer details.

Arms – His left arm is out of proportion with his body. Also, I’d eliminate the black outlines and leave the brown tones for interior shading. The muscles forms will look more integrated that way. As for his right, the arm changes direction where his bicep meets the deltoid muscle. Imagine a line that begins at the tip of his right shoulder and extends to his wrist. This should be a straight line.

Hands – Right hand is too small. Too many bones showing and the pose looks unnatural. I’d suggest referencing martial arts poses, but for a quick fix you could put his hand in a “stop” or “talk to the hand” position with fingers extended.

Sword – I think even Inuyasha himself would avoid holding a broadsword like that and he’s half demon. Consider giving him a katana or at least a smaller broadsword or let him hold it in front of him.

I don’t mean to take over your pic. These are just my suggestions, and you’ve got a good start so far. Hope they’re helpful and welcome to CGTalk. I look forward to seeing more work from you.
