well if they don’t offer the older versions on their website then I guess you are out of luck.

I still can’t see why you would care about older versions though but I see no harm in asking?

gmask, you are pretty persistant aren’t you? lol

ok, you asked, so here are my reasons:

  1. this latest release is not as stable as the previous releases I have tried
  2. see reason 1) it really is as simple as that

but if you require more reasons, here are a few more for you:

  1. I would enjoy viewing the progress of this app through trying out several different versions

  2. I would like to test some of the plugins which do not seem to work in the latest releases

  3. I see no harm in checking out previous releases, do you?

  4. I was growing tired of reading about Poser related stuff and thought I would explore Wings while practicing my modeling skills

Makes… sense… actually it’s kind of surprising that they don’t link some of the recent other versions for those reasons. If the version you have is crashing alot they may very well send you a more stable version if you write to them about it.

Wow… that isn’t the typical gmask I know, everything alright g?

Hey sabrina… not really sure what happened to the old release page… it used to be there (I shit you not). I tried to look on sourceforge.net but I am getting a connection error (crappy macs). Funny that the old iterations are not there (at least the last 4 stable versions)… I can’t remember which was the last version to work with Clacos’ plugins, but I’ll check when I get home and maybe I can email the installer to ya.

Me to so it’s not a mac thing… as i’m on the PC

everything is fine here… just being my usual inquisitive self

Hi JDex, thank you very much, I would surely appreciate any assistance I can get

I have been viewing for some time now and I seem to remember a member suggesting they were using an older version for the Slide plugin and I really wish to give this a try out.

#10

Okay… well it’s still a crappy mac:D

Sabrina… I know i am still using an old version (2 or 3 stable releases back) but that is due to sheer lazyness, since the plugins are not something that I have even downloaded, but if memory serves, I still have a handful of the even older releases on a cd somewhere, I’ll be glad to look into it… provided Bjorn doesn’t come down on me with a winged-edge vengence, although I don’t see why he would.

#11

You are a sweety JDex, I look forward to your post

#12

I am still using the old 98 c too. mainly because slide and tweak S runs with it.

keep trying sourceforge it sometimes works sometimes doesnt depending on their server.

Hey g-mask didnt know you checked out wings forum man , did you start using it too>?

>>>Hey g-mask didnt know you checked out wings forum man , did you start using it too>?

hehe… yeah I actually did download it awhile back and do a couple of tutorials. I’ve allways been a fan of free software even if I didn’t use it… I just beleive in supporting it in anyway… I like Blender too but never used it

Anyway since I have been doing more poly modelling in Maya I’m constantly wondering how things could be done differently or more easily. I’m not ready to bounce back and forth between the two programs though.

Probably…

Gotta admit, I too was a bit shocked to see gmask in our humble Wings forum… eventually, you will probably want to jump back and forth, the workflow is just so fast. Still looking sabrina…

I would like blender alot more if I never tried it. but I applaud anyone who uses it successfully. I don’t see any modeling selection tools in it that stand out and it seems rather primitive modeling wise. seems you need 2 or 3 versions of it 1 for old python scripts 1 for the game engine features and the newest for new features. seems some of those scripts could have been implemented into the program lord knows it has enough buttons. I will continue reading and learning stuff about it but I think I gave it as much time as any other app I tried and sofar nothing is jumping out at me saying this is an app I must have.

Here is a direct link to SourceForge page for Wings:

From that page, there is a link to the Download page, where you will find all releases.

#19

Oh thank you very much Bjorng. [hugs]

and thank you JDex, for being so kind

good show there bjorn. hope i wasn’t heading down a path that you disapproved of.

sabrina, i was just starting to get to the right batch of back-up cds, but this is much better

good luck and i hope you and wings ā€œclickā€, oh yeah, welcome to CGTalk :wavey:

Also, for those trapped in OS 10.1.x on a Mac, you cannot run the newer versions since it requires Jaguar. I cant remember the last version that ran on 10.1.x tho.

I also dont know if that ā€œre-compile Erlang and replace a fileā€ thing still works on the newer versions (in order to make it run on 10.1.x).

:stuck_out_tongue:
