Oldboy Bust WIP

#1

Hey guys, I’m working on a bust of Choi Min-Sik, the star of the movie Oldboy (the original one that is haha) Anyway, I’m just looking for some feedback on where I am with the face so far, before I start to move into adding smaller details like skin pores and the like. Whether it’s to do with the likeness to the actor or any anatomical errors, I’d super appreciate the criticism.

Here’s my sculpt

And here’s my reference

Thanks guys!

Okay so apparently I did something wrong when inserting the images so I threw them up on imgur, which I’ve never done before either, so let’s see if I can screw that up too

incidentally does anyone know what I might have done wrong when trying to use the Insert Image?

I think he could have more volume over the upper lip. His eyebrows are not pointing up, but rather go down at outer ends in refs (or rather his eeyesocket bones are more prominent over eyes, so the eyes have more definition of the transition between the eye and the eyesocket bone). His nostrils don’t go as high. Also the wronkle on his chin is not so wide in refs.

Scote: Thanks for explaining! Let’s hope I do it right this time

mIster3d: Thanks for the criticism!

So here’s a quick update, I adjusted the shape of the nose, added a touch more volume over the upper lip and tweaked the transition from the chin to the lower lip, according to mIster3d’s critique. I also tried to add more structure to the area where the zygomatic bone meets the frontal bone, whereas before that area was pretty none existent. The area I’m having the most trouble with right now is the folds of the upper eyelid and the area between the lids and the socket. The photo in which his expression is most neutral is hard to interpret because of the lighting, and in all the others the folds are not as reliable because he is not looking directly ahead. I’ll keep working on it though. I’ve also blocked out the clothing, but there’s not much to show on that yet.

Okay, so i’ve retopologized the head since last time. Topology isn’t my strongest areas so if someone has any criticism, that would be appreciated

Also refined the jacket a bit and did some sculpting on the shirt

Probably jumped the gun (that ear could use some work now that I look at it) but I took a (very) quick stab at adding some tertiary details. I think the lips came out alright, but I’ll have spend some more time on the skin pores for sure.

as always thanks for any feedback guys!
