Oject sizing and some other pre-purchase questions

#1

I’ve watched the demo videos and it looks like a pretty sexy workflow. I’m a LightWave user who does production (set) design. My work is sort of architectural but not. For the most part I build everything in LightWave and export it to VectorWorks or AutoCAD to do construction drawings and such. Anyhow, I’ve got a few questions:

Accuracy…is Modo floating point accurate? For example will a 100 foot cube in Modo come in at exactly 100’ in my CAD app?

Sizing…In LW I use a great plugin called SuperSize to accurately re-size and re-locate objects. for example I can select a cube and and change it to an 8’ long 2x4 (LW has a it’s Absolute Size tool but I’m used to the Supersize plugin). Is there a similar tool or plugin for Modo?

Resources…is there a site like Flay.com for Modo?

Thanks,
Peter

I can only answer this question:

modo resources:
http://vertexmonkey.com/

Seneca website:
http://www.indigosm.com/modoscripts.htm

modo mode:

and you'll find some cool stuff on new community section:

aquinde,

right now there is no way to do what you are specifically asking for in modo (regarding the resizing)

I too am dying for a script like this - Dion said that he would take a look at adding on to his “absolute.pl” script (http://www.vertexmonkey.com/scripts_scale.php) to accomdate the features we are looking for.

On the other hand, modo there are too many other great things about modo and arch vis to pass it up.

Macros, Workplane, Snapping etc. -

I’m not sure about the accuracy. I use the Dimention+ plugin for LW to do my resizing. It is not totally accurate (but adequete) - when I select one part of the model (drawing) and type in the size, that part of the model always comes out accurately but if you have a larger area attached to the part that you resized, the numbers seem to drift a bit . . . hope thats clear enough . . .

maybe someone from lux could answer the accuracy question . . .

Thanks for the info guys. Modo looks more interesting the more I look into it. I think once there is some sizing ability and offset ability (I use Happy Digital’s PumpIt for this in LW, but proper offsets would be nice too) I’ll be able to justify getting Modo.

I’m very glad to see people here doing similar work to mine asking for thse kinds of features.
