Oil Tank texture -critic please?

#1

Hello ,
ok so this is my first ‘finished’ piece (which im sure could use a lot more work!) but im still learning =) and i need some advice/critics on this tank model.

The textures were done in Photoshop cs3 and applied in Mudbox, the rendering was done in Maya.
I used a Spotlight and a Directional light. How is that working?

I did a lot of sculpting on this piece to make it look old and beaten up but the displacement map didnt come out right and im not sure why. I did the sculpting on the 3d model (in mudbox) itself. Should i have ‘sculpt using displacement map’?

Can anyone explain to me how to do that? Im uploading the displacement map as well so you can see what im talking about. There is not much information on the map and i did do a lot of sculpting.

Thanks a lot for your help

for texturing

you can try to make also a bump channel and spec channel in mud just painting those and plug those in the maya shader I suggest to use mia_material

Hey vmarines, thank you for your post, but I dont really understand what you mean…?
sorry, could you please explain? thanks

in mud you can paint diferents channels (bump, spec, reflection) etc… to generate another maps and not just the basic diffuse channel, the advantage of that is that you can paint those in the 3d view

I think the next link will show you the process
