Oh so common elf girl sculpt

#1

Hi,

I’ve been sculpting for close to five years, but really more as a hobby as I spend most of my life writing C++ plug ins for Character Animation in Houdini.

This is really the first time I’ve had time to take a sculpting serious enough to want to get it right.

This is definitely going to be rigged so it would be amazing to hear what kinds of tricks you guys have for getting the best sculpts and making it as animation ready as possible. Also process, what steps do you take and in what order to get a great sculpt and to minimize issues later in the pipeline. I’ve learned all to well what can go wrong.

And of course criticism is highly encouraged, I really want to get this perfect.

Thank you so much for your time.

Elves are pretty cool, I say! :keenly: Good luck with your project!

Are you going for a realistic look or for something more stylized? If you’re aiming for realism, I would watch the size of the eyes, they’re very large right now.

Regardless of style, the ears look a bit too thin. Especially when you see them from behind.

Elves are awesome, it’s just in their blood.

I’m going for realistic, very realistic.

I was shooting for big eyes, but I agree with what your saying. Do you think the Orbit of the eye is too large? Or just the eyeball itself?

The ears are still under construction, I’m hesitant about the style, originally I had these cute fairy looking ears, but they were definitely too stylized so I went with more human-esque ears, I’m just not sure.

Thank JValdes, really appreciate it.

What kind of Elf you want?

Lord of the Rings Elves?

or

D&D Elves?

@MrScienceOfficer - Hmm, well roughly speaking, a human head is around 5 “eye widths” wide from ear to ear but I’m not sure for a person that has naturally big eyes. Maybe find some references of people with big eyes and compare them to your model.

I’m probably not the best person to critique realistic characters since I do mostly cartoons, but if I was approaching a project like this I’d find as much references as I could for all the features I was trying to get!

@Scote What I’m going for is an evolutionary offshoot of human that evolves into having very elf like characteristics.

@JValdes Thanks, I had shrunken the eyes down yesterday, so since you said that I figured I’d measure them and there basically in the ballpark.

I’m gonna start sculpting the skull and see how everything fits in.

If you look at the model from the side, the neck is anatomically out of proportion. From the side view, the neck is too wide. There should be more curvature in the back of the neck where the skull connects with the spine. The chin could also be moved forward a little, as it looks too recessed.
