Octane vs Arnold vs V-ray

#1

Ok,

not sure if this is the right category, but I will be using a chosen renderer with Maya, so here we go…

I had it with Mental Ray. No more. So I’m looking into a new rendering solution. I have 2 machines available as a mini “render farm” and I want to use deadline as my render management software. (I may add more computers in the future). I am just a little old 3D generalist and under no circumstances could I be considered an I.T. guy. I already got some help from our I.T. guy having both PC’s talk to each other without hiccups. Now a HUGE deciding factor for which renderer to choose will be how easy it is to setup my mini render farm with it, and how good their support is.

All recommendations are appreciated.

Thanks!

p.s. (so far I’m kind of swaying to Octane render, I know it has a 12 GPU limit and I’m pretty sure my job will never buy me those many graphic cards so that limit is a non issue).

Arnold for ease of use,Vray for support.Octane not so much.

not what you are asking for but i would take a look at redshift… much better support than octane…

Thanks guys!

I’ll look into redshift too Oglu. Thanks!

Redshift for sure now that it’s in the mix.

I’m liking redshift, but as of now I’ve been seeing V-ray videos, specially all the new stuff in 3.3 and I won’t lie, I’m drooling over it. The good thing is that since I want to schedule renders one one of my machines, Mental ray satellite won’t allow me to do that (at least with deadline) so I have an excuse to spend the money (I work for a company outside of entertainment and they know nothing about CG, so I have to justify all this stuff).

Heck V-Ray is a way better renderer and a heck of a lot cheaper than the minimum of 10 licences with a total of $7000 that Nvidia wants for mental ray stand alone licences…

See how this goes, wish me luck…
