I have a strange problem, or maybe it’s not strange at all. The image on the left is object normalmapp, and the one on the right is tangent. I’ve heard that you should use tangent normal maps, is that correct? atleast for deformable objects, like chrarcters? But I think the shadows on the tangent map sucks compared to the object one… Anyone able to explain this to me? I would be most grateful. Cheers / Tor
Yes, tangent space is what you want.
Object tells it what angle the normal points in absolutely, i.e. it points in this direction always, no matter what happens.
Whereas tangent space tells it relatively, and seeing as your polys will me moving and rotating, etc, you want the normal map to react relatively to the normal’s direction.
