Hello. I am thinking to start learning Nuke. I heard a lot of good opinion about this program.
So far I was just using Adobe After Effects.
Is here someone who was using both programs and is able to compare them a bit?
I’m just afraid about few things: if my computer will be strong enough for Nuke and how much cost licence for Nuke, is it expensive?
Any other information will be welcomed.

Nuke vs AF

Yeah sure. I do use both and here’s a good comparison.*

There’s also a free Nuke PLE available.
*seriously, you can’t compare them. Just too different workflows, nodal vs layer compositing.
I know it is too different workflows. I see that node system is getting more popular and it seems that it can give more possibilities but in the same time can be more difficult to learn? Do you agree?
I see that node system is getting more popular
It’s not getting more popular, it’s been quite a standard for compositing, I’d rather say After Effects does catch up.
but in the same time can be more difficult to learn?
That’s a matter of personal reference. I (See? Personal preference. Told you so) had less problems with nodes in Shake/Nuke Fusion v layers in AE or Combustion than with having to deal with premultiplication problems, colorspaces and a few things more that you can’t even access in AE.
Here’s a video comparing Nuke and AE.

the correct answeris “it depends”
nuke and other node based comp packages have their strength in shot based VFX work
AE is the king in motion graphics, design orientated work
you can do the both in each world (nodal vs. layer), but its easier to do in one of them
if your future work is based on more VFX (or “classic comp” = putting many layers of footage togehter) work then go into the node world, if its more motion graphics work stay in AE
pingking and scrimski thanks for your advices and links!
The movie with comparison is great, persuade me to the node system, it seems to well organized and powerful.
