nParticles - upredictable highly frequent crashes when caching

#1

In a couple of scenes, my nParticle systems crash when caching. I can well playback the particles ands simulate without caching. However, starting a cahce will either crash the system on the very first frame or somewhere in the middle- This happens on several machines and I cannot tell what the reason for it might be.

In the scene, there is a lot of animated geometry imported as Maya Reference, then my nParticle emitters are constrained to that references.I suspect the crashes might be related to those references, but I might be wrong.

Has anybody seen this as a cause for frequent crashes? Do you have any other idea what might be causing those crashes?

Are there any error messages in script editor or in maya output window ?

Maya crashes the evil way…no error message…bang…and then it’s gone. Maya2014, if this is of any help.

ok

Well I don’t see if this has anything to do with your references, at least without seeing the whole scene, but what you might try is to just create empty nParticles and load those caches to it and see how they behave.

There’s been problems with the nCaches ( and geoCaches, they’re pretty uch the same stuff ) to act bad if the IO lag grows too big but otherwise like I said, without the whole setup this is only advice I can think of i a hurry :frowning:

Hope you’ll get there.
