Now OPEN!!! Open Figure Drawing Workshop with zhuzhu and Rebecca Kimmel 004

Katea,

Great to see you back! Just so you know, we’re on OFDW 005, but you are more than welcome to post in any OFDW for as long as you wish! I think this is looking really good ~ you have a nice painterly style going which is cool to see.

One thing I think you should reconsider (easy to do in Photoshop) is the relationship of the axes of the head and shoulders. There is something currently a bit funny there that would be fairly easy to correct.

Independently, I really like how you have painted the face ~ have you ever seen the work of Skip Liepke? This link was posted by Segvoia in the Favorite Artists thread, and I think you should check out his work:
http://www.dianenelson.com/dnfagallery/1101-liepkeshow/liepke/liepkeshow.htm

Will you be working further on this?

Cheers,

~Rebeccak

P.S.:I hate my old scanner…

Crassisco,

Not too bad! A shading tutorial I think you might like is Slux’s Shading Tutorial, which is on his Anatomy Thread here:

Anatomy Thread of Slux

I think you might quite like the way he breaks down his shading technique. Take a look when you get the chance.

Cheers,

~Rebeccak

#259

hi…
i took slux’s shadingtutorial seriously and i like the result.

#260

Crassisco,

Wow, nice work!!! I am thrilled that you used Slux’s tutorial to your best advantage…it makes me quite happy to see when people show real progress in their work as a result of something they’ve found on the Anatomy forum.

I think if you worked a bit more on the feet and the face, you would be in great shape! I quite like how you have carefully blocked in the figure, and been very careful about your proportions. Nice work so far! Do you plan to finish this piece?

Cheers,

~Rebeccak

#261

Finaly finished this drawing. Head proportions could be better (too late :)). I also don´t want to tweak this piece forever, so here it is:

#262

raptor|3D,

Great to see you post this piece! I agree that there are proportional problems, but, as I mentioned in your Anatomy Thread, I think it’s fine to move on. You have some nice work with the shading here, although I’ve also seen you do even better shading in other pieces. I think given the short amount of time, you have done a really nice job with this piece.

Cheers,

~Rebeccak

Fairly new to the forum, I´m not quite sure if it´s OK to post WIP´s here, but I take my chances
Painter IX, Oils. 30 mins so far. Started with the detailing of the right arm so far. The rest is just blocked in.

#264

SaraD,

Yep, WIP is our thing here, so it’s absolutely ok to post WIP. Nice to see your post! Just so you know, we are on the last week of OFDW 006 ~ this is OFDW 004. You are more than welcome to post here (all OFDWs remain open indefinitely) but most folks post to the most current OFDW.

Here is the most current one:

NOW OPEN!!! OPEN FIGURE DRAWING WORKSHOP 006 with Ron Eyre and Rebecca Kimmel!!

We should start a new one next week.

Cheers,

Hi Rebeccak,
I know this is an “oldie”, but I liked the definitions of themuscles on this one, so I started with it:)
I´ll hopefully have time for the following ones as well…

#266

SaraD,

No worries then! Rock on! Checkin’ back later…

Cheers,

~Rebeccak

#267

OK, here´s after 2 hrs work…

#268

SaraD,

That right arm is coming along beautifully! :applause: I would recommend blocking in the rest of the figure ~ but everyone works differently. Looking forward to seeing your next update!

Cheers,

~Rebeccak

#269

My next update:)

#270

SaraD,

Wow, some fanatastic work and progress!!! Ok, so now you have to tell us something about your background and training!

Cheers,

Here´s the finished piece.

Rebeccak, I work as a graphic designer, mainly books and covers. The painting is only for fun:) I have absolutely no education in painting, and have trouble drawing a straight line with a pencil. Why I can paint and draw on the computer I have no idea:) I haven´t done it for long, my first piece (the babyface shown in another thread here on the forum), is from last year.
I have some trouble getting away from the realistic part, and that is my next challenge - to try to paint looser.

Thanks for your interest and for the comments on the painting.

SaraD,

Wow, this is a beautiful piece! You’re amazingly fast. The only thing that stands out to me as being off is the nose / lips size and shape relationship. Other than that, this is really fantastic!

It’s amazing that you don’t have drawing/painting training. Really? Never even one drawing class? That’s slightly depressing! :scream:

Thanks for posting a bit about yourself. Just saw your post for OFDW 006…trundles over…

Cheers,

~Rebeccak
