Normal Maps or other methods

#1

Hi there!

I’m relatively new to texturing. I’m trying to create a biscuit texture on 1 of my biscuit model. I saw on youtube that people mostly sculpt or do high detail modelling on objects then create a normal map (by baking texture) and place that normal texture onto a low polygon model.

Since I’m trying to texture a biscuit texture, is it possible to do a normal map by setting a material on the biscuit model then upload a .jpeg file of the texture on it or are there other ways to get the depth?

Below is an image of my explaination

You could use an image you find online (or take a picture yourself) of the surface you’d like to use and “convert” it to a normal map for instance, using software like crazy bump, ndo or photoshop plugins from xnormal or nvidia. With basic photo manipulation you could use the source image as your diffuse map and match up 1:1 with the normal map.

Hi

Thanks for replying! I guess you are right. Gotta use photoshop with NDO or something. I was looking through NDO as well as Substance Painter and dont think the latter can create what I wanted.

Anyway thanks again for your input!
