Normal Map export issues...

#1

Hello everyone!

I have just created my profile, so this is my first thread. I am currently doing a degree in animation in Melbourne which is very nice  I am looking forward to join the CG community and hopefully contribute with something down the road.

I have a problem with the Mudbox 2009 Trial version. I am working on a normal map for a lowpoly game character (about 4400 triangles), but when I export the map and apply it to the mesh in Maya, I get some really weird stuff happening. It looks like scratches in the actual normal map (itÂ’s not a viewport thing, it shows up in Photoshop as well).

I find it a bit weird, because the scratches are not details I have sculpted in Mudbox (they show up as well). The model’s geometry is quite clean, I have checked for stray verts, overlapping faces and normal directions. The ‘scratches’ are nowhere near the UV seams. I have tried to export on several machines and they all do the same thing, so I guess the model is the problem.

I hope someone out there can help me out, because this is starting to annoy me J

Thank you from Koffiz
