noob HDR question


i am rendering an object using an hdr image.

at the risk of sounding like a complete dumbass…

the problem is that the specular highlight doesnt seem to be sensitive to the geometry of the object and passes through the mesh as if were passing through walls. areas that are supposed to be in shadow are actually lit with the same intensity as the outside surfaces

i have enclosed a render to show you what im talking about…

there is a setting that is evading me :shrug:
