Node Material: Curvature Shader (e.g. Edge wear or grundge ...)

#1

Has anybody figured out how to acomplish a curvature shader with the new node Material System?

I guess most of you will want this to drive wear and tear of metal painted objects, orsimilyr grundge.

But I want to visualize curvature change of a Surface for kontroling “surface” quality rather than “dirt”.

anyway the solution would be the same.

in Yan Ge Node Image presented on maxons site you can see some “edge” shader but i do not know if its procedural …

kind regards.

Hi, I used invert AO and noise for the edge, here is the nodes:

Thanks Yan Ge,

I am searching for a real curfature shader setup, hence AO will not work in my case i need physical “corekt” realtime viewport display.

something like this (not the link the image atached unfold to see)

thanks anyway these nodes will help others i guess

There has never been a curvature shader in c4d though it would be welcomed. Some 3rd party renderer engines have this–at least Arnold and Redshift do, as does Substance. There was a 3rd party shader that someone created a few years ago, but I believe he took it off the market.

Actually you can look at Paul Everett’s Topology Vertex Maps

Oh! Could be great to have curvature shader natively inside C4D.

There were two exceptional plugins for curvature mapping, especially useful as layer masks.

AoB - Real Curvature_v1.1
AoB - Surface Curvature Shader_v1.01

Both were discontinued after R15, but were generously patched to work in R16.
They continued to work up until R19 for me.

Will try with the insydium bridge tomorrow and report back.
I’ll contact the dev too, to see if they can be made available for free.
