No where else to turn - motion tracking and 3D

#1

Hey so I don’t know where else to ask about this so then I thought, hey if anyone knows it probably would be CGTalk.

So lets say I wanted to film something where I had a half slug / half man race, with the upperbody of a man, lower body of a slug basically. I know how I could use motion tracking to simply track the points I need in After Effects, but as far as the model goes, how could I get just the torso to bend with the upperbody, since if you have just a model and move it with the points, the model wouldnt bend, it would just rotate. Im really at a loss and I need to figure this out for a project I’m working on.

Pardon me if this comes off a little naive here on my part as I don’t know what you’re working with or anything. But couldn’t you just place some kind of tracking markers on the actor’s legs (since they’re gone anyway) to give you depth points to track? Or something along those lines?
