Ibox… I love Wings, just wished that I could interface with it the way I feel comfy with is all

IBox… loyalty is a two way street eh… the way I see it, I am but only one of many currently doing beta testing of sorts with an app called Wings3D, and thus I sort of figure that right or wrong, that my feedback regarding said app should count as much as any others eh… or are we to be drones for life, only suggesting what is right for the group despite whether or not it fit’s for all or only some… the way I figure it, if Wings3D had a few more options, widgits included, then everybody would be using it… and nobody would even bother to check out new products such as Silo, or waiting to check out Modo, and/or simply using other apps eh… Why do you suppose this is?

Dude,I get what you’re saying…but what I don’t get is how often you need to say it.
Björn’s not going to do it. Easy as that,really…
So if you REALLY need widgets,I’d get myself a book on Erlang,
and a couple of books on graphics programming,
and just make that plug yourself :slight_smile:

For as long as Wings is open source,you’re free to do what you want with it.
Or,you could try what someone did at the official forums…
Can’t remember the name,but a user offered $500 for a plug to be developed,
an exporter to rwx format I think it was,and it WAS developed by someone.

Or,just use it without the manips…I think it works REALLY well without them myself.

one way to help remember hotkeys is to take a strip of paper and tape in on your keyboard above the f1 to f12 keys and just write down above each key what it does. alot of the default hotkeys are pretty easy to remember the more you use them they will be stuck in your brain then you will wonder how you ever managed without them.

daftie… dude, that was the mission here with the frequent posts re widgits… like yea, a plugin written would be a very cool thing… as for the price of five hundred, well… I would hope that there would be more than just I, that would be interested in said plugin eh… thought that posting would perhaps bring out some added interest… thus making said plugin worth say a hundred bucks, c/w the clacos set… I dunno, sounds much like the Mesh Surgery plugin for C4D, which is slated to cost bout the same eh… and how cool it would be to also have as metioned before… tools remaining active until otherwise chosen different :slight_smile:

Yeah, I realise everyone is different, and everyone is free to do things there own way.

Ibox, you’re right, Bay Raitt could do great work with any app.

But he has chosen a particular app for very specific reasons and he is VERY vocal about those reasons, which make a lot of sense to a lot of people. If you don’t think this line of reasoning is sound, you don’t have to follow it.

This is not a “hotkey propoganda party”. When people make their posts, most of the time they’re trying to help.

Perhaps I too am trying to help… maybe you and a handful here just don’t really understand how it is for us non qwerty friendly types eh… you say you do, but… hmmm

My son’s are doing the Wings thing now adays, as are many of their friends… and doing pretty good at that eh… non are what I would deem qwerty friendly as of yet, and they all would much prefer to begin working with widgits… but they are already pretty friendly with wings, so much so, that like me, once you try it it is pretty hard to go back to a lesser app eh… but… that dosen’t mean that we all can’t dream of how this app could be better for our use…

and believe you me, as a parent you are pretty thrilled to be able to get your kids modeling as in apposed tp playing v games eh…

Just a thought concerning a much younger generation… and I am betting that you thought this was just all about me eh… try being a parent… you will explore things you never dreamed of, just to get your kids a head start in life…

Oh, and most of our friends who have kids feel the same way we do… so please, quit on shooting the messenger eh…

seven fingers… yea, they work pretty well indeed, and the guys are doing all right by them, even though from time to time they slip selections upon moving to the second menu … but yes, Wings is thier chosen app, and really, it is mine as well, too many great tools to ignore eh… thnx for the reply :slight_smile:

I read a post on here once about someone trying to setup voice recognition software to work with wings I don’t think he was able to get it to work but it is probabbly possible to set something like that up then you could just say any command you wanted and eliminate memorizing hotkeys. I would be interested if anyone knows of any free voice recognition software that may be capable of doing such a thing as storing macros activated by speech that would rule.

Having used Wings almost exclusively for modelling and Maya for anim, i cant go back to the maya workflow, its just soo damn slow. I wish i could get rid of the manipulators and have wings style modelling in maya.

Only reason why im even tempted to go back to maya is there are some really nice tools being developed (ByronsPolyTools and APEL) which cant be found in wings.

I need to make maya as wings like as possible!.

Widgets are incredibly overated.

The BPT videos looks soo nice…Would be sweet if it came out for Maya PLE so I can have a go sometime :slight_smile:

And APELS looks like something that could be handy to have in Wings I think.

i think part of the excitment of being a digital artist as opposed to a traditional artist with traditional mediums…is that the technology and techniques are always evolving, forcing the artist to be flexible and open minded if he is to survive in his chosen profession.

i personally get off on learning new appz and techniques. I do get a bit bored with traditional mediums for the reasons mentioned. Doesnt mean i want to work with Lightwave…but i do see learning to model without widgets as challenge to be able to fully grasp what it means to be a modeler.

ouch…hehe… ok… so by this statement of yours 2bytes, this would mean that I could model say the most fantastic custom home one has seen in quite a while, or come up with a really cool looking critter or whatever, but would not be deemed a real modeler becuase I used widgits? What? … what about the model it’s self… you know, the end result… oop’s, not really a model because a true model would have been built without the use of widgits… awe come on… :slight_smile:

they (widgits) are but tools to assist in the process eh… nothing more, nothing less… some prefer them, some not…the rest is all about craftmanship, you know, the artistic side of things…

but yea man, if your dreams of working within the line somewhere, also include the ultimate method’s/shortcut’s in interfacing then go man go… ya gotta have respect for someone so determined to make it in this fashion eh :slight_smile:

I personaly have no ambitions in this field eh, just a hobby is all, but… for those like you who are intending to become pro modelers… right on I say

man its a shame …
thats the reason why i stoped messin with wings…
cos of the manips lack off…
im a max user and i can model so fast with a manip amd 1 view port…
so wings is so slow for me with out a manip…
so i tried silo and even though it has a manip it dont have 2 axis constraint like max…the yellow box inbetween each axsis…so thats even slower…so you cant win…
but the thing is i think you should always have the option to use a tool…if you dont want to use a manip then dont use it switch it of…if you do, like all the max…maya …xsi. users.then cool…i should not be forced to work the way the app wants me to rather the way i want to…
but im testing clay and that dont have a manip eather but jay said he might make one.fingers crossed…then you have the option …thats what i think its all about… CHOICE,
but clay is shaping up real nice…hehehehe…:applause: :applause: :applause:

well, being a wings user since… erm… version .92 i am proud to use wings and it is frankly the best polygon modeler i have ever used… mayas cheap poly modeling tools are utterly horrible… there is nothing good about them… EXCEPT for the manipulators… i FEEL that wings would benefit so greatly from manipulators such as how maya has them set up… because in maya you press Q for move and then the move manipulator comes up and you can move your object or face or anything around… press W for rotate and you can rotate your object face or anything you like around, and finally press E for scale and yes, you can scale your object and face and anything around… it is just that much faster then pressing a hot key or going through the rmb menus…

like i said, i am a wings user firstly… i have only started to use maya in the past 3 months and the manips are really that much faster… and they dont get in the way because you can resize them…haha
