Nima PhysX for Maya 2008?

#45

cool plugin…thats got to be open source …right???

#46

is that with self collisions?

#47

thats got to be open source …right???

Still in R&D phase, but since true, progressive, procedural yet user-controllable 3D shattering is something that is not available for Maya, we are planning on making it commercial.

is that with self collisions?

What do you mean? Collision layer is set to 0 for all RB’s, yes. They are all convex.
Nima rocks!

#48

Are there any docs on the PhysX MEL commands?

Is there a way to detect collisions between RB’s through MEL in Nima; so I can write conditionals “if collides, then do this”?

Anyone?

i am pretty sure that right now there isn’t. i posted the same question in the feeling software forums back then when they were still developing it and i got no answer. but what i found out is that all the contact data attributes are not connected yet and if queried output only 0. anyway it shouldn’t be too hard to implement, because when you turn on"visualize contact point" nima already shows you where the collisions are happening…

It seems doesn’t accelerate anything with my ATI FireGL =.=

Hey guys I just wanna know the limit of rigid bodies in terms of number…Coz I was trying to create hughe wall fence for imploding & no. of bricks were exceeding 15-20,000 bricks. last I know when my simulation ran properly was around with 10000 rigid cubes (bricks) & now when I m trying to exceed its crashing without any error?
So I m lil curious to know are there any poly limits for nima or it depends on machine configuration? my poor machine has dual core 2.4 ghz with 2gb ram & ATI radeon X1550 512mb.
Is it good enough to run or simulate 20,000 rigid bodies all at once??
Thnxs much for d help!

Will it be realiced for maya 2009, ? anyone know?

#54

Somebody help me

I download new "NVIDIA_PhysX_for_Maya_1.0.4_for_SDK_8.06.12.exe"3.6M
BUT when I run it there was some words like that:
“There is no Maya Max Xsi installed ,you have to quit installation”
why??? Did I miss something?

And IF it runs ,should I use it in vista64 with maya2008??

Any updates on Nima for Maya 2009? Especially x64?

You must have Nvidia Graphic card Gforce 8000 series or newer. Or a Nvidia Ageia PhysX Card.

First install Nvidia PhysX System Software from http://developer.nvidia.com/object/physx_downloads.html
Then [Download]PhysX SDK 2.8.1 Build 13 for Windows, and install
Read the PhysX Plug-In for Autodesk Maya User Guide from http://developer.nvidia.com/object/physx_dcc_plugins.html
Install Installer for Maya 8.5 and 2008

All installation must be as a administator, right klick and run as administrator.

I saw on sourceforge that someone is working on a 2009 version of nima. I don’t think it is 64bit though. I am in contact with the developer but he is pretty vague on where its going. It sounds like he is doing this work for a game company and he wants to release it to the wider world once he is done. I cant confirm this though.

You don’t need a geforce card to run physx. In fact, nima only works in software mode. If you have a geforce 8 or higher you can run other physx or cuda based apps on that card. At work I have a quadro 1700 for my displays (64sp) and a geforce 8800gs (96sp) for cuda and phsyx. The geforce has no monitor plugged into it. It is strictly for cuda. Its cool, but I haven’t seen a big return on my $80 investment yet.

I am not getting this to work at all…, Is “PhysX SDK 2.8.1 Build 13 for Windows” working on XP64?, it doesn’t work on my system.

Please confirm, I can’t find it for XP64 googling for it.

Thank’s.

#60

I am using xp64 and it works fine. I would just download the runtime.

http://www.nvidia.com/object/physx_9.09.0203_whql.html

That should work. I would use Fluidmark to test my configuration. That way you can tell if its physx or nima thats the problem.

I hope that helps

The physX instalation went OK at first, but then I couldn’t execute any of the demos that come with it…, then I tried to install PhysX plugin for MAYA and it said I hadn’t any MAYA installed…, wierd.

I’m trying now with your executable advise.

#62

Does anyone know how to query, thru mel, the contact data of the physx rigid bodies?

#63

me, too.

I run the instalation while maya is runing, and it said I have to close my maya before I install it. Okay, I close it. Then something interesting happen. I click the setup again, it said I have install maya before I install Physx Plugin, how come?

#64

got the same problem , if anyone know how to fix the problem , i would like to know

thanks.
