I used to use Max, but I heard about many other packages being better, so I had a look at them one by one. Particularly I couldn’t understand why textures was so difficult. Why couldn’t I just draw directly onto a model.
First I tried ZBrush, really impressed, but it has some strange concepts which are hard to understand. I could paint onto model directly, but I encountered a nasty bug: I pressed crtl z too many times and it corrupted my texture and all my work was lost.
XSI has a complicated licence server setup, which I wasn’t able to get work, so just passed on that.
Then modo. I could nearly get things working without even reading the tutorials and the paint on model function seems to work fine (much more powerful than ZBrush). Modeling seems to be a lot easier too.
And to top it off, I notice that it’s very stable and light weight. (It consumes about 5 times less Ram than Max)

Anyways, looks like this will be my tool of choice from now on

I wouldnt say modo is better than zbrush, but being able to model and sculpt in one app is fairly incredible. Trying to retopo a zb model in max didnt go, and it didnt go in silo either because of the obscene poly count,… it did work in modo though!

Anyhow the uv suite is a dream so far:thumbsup:.
