I saw that discreet has many solutions for compositing, but never understood the difference between them. Can someone give a quick overview about the differences between inferno, flame, smoke and combustion?
Newbie Question
Flame Flint and Inferno are effectively the same only with different hardware. All are top end HardDrive based compositors which offer pretty insane performance and are designed to work in a live client session setting. They can do just about everything in one package: 3D Tracking, roto, the whole works.
Smoke is pretty much Flame but also an online NLE and conform application.
Combustion is a RAM based compositor. Layer based (like AE) although it has a node like interaction view.
FFI and Smoke cost ~$100,000 or more when you include the Stone RAID arrays.
Combustion is <$1000
