newbie question how to split faces

#1

I know I know I will probibly get yelled at for posting this but…

How does one split faces in Wings?

I can’t seem to find it in any of the menus

#2

select the two edges you want to connect and press “C” or use the RMB Menu and select Connect

You can also connect verts this way.

This may seem like an odd way of “cutting,” but once you get used to it, you will find yourself despising the “Cut Face” tool in other apps, as you can connect a large selection of edges at once, then finish the ends of your cut by connecting verts if you need to.

If you want to make X amount of identical cuts along the same edges, you can press 1-9 to “subdivide” the edges with verts, then connect the already-selected new verts. (this is the “Cut” tool under the edge menu)

Last but not least, try selecting one edge and right-click for the edge menu, then right-click on “Cut.” You can now slide this new vert along the edge.

Well okay maybe split isnt the the right word i meant how to make a knife cut and split one face into two.

#5

Maybe I’m missing something… that is what connect does on my computer.

example.

4 sided poly… want to cut it in half to make two 4 sided polys.

select two of the edges, press C… voila.

Perhaps what you need is feature i’ve never used.

What he means is is there a way to cut a face in two in any angle he wants. Thats what a knife cut is in such programs like Cinema 4d. So far there isnt a knife cut feature in wings. Just have to do the connect options instead and then move the points where you want.

#7

Nope.

You can Move the point and then Connect them. :buttrock:

What I mean is the Cut&Slide option will let you move the vertex on the edge before it is created…When all points are created,Then you can connect them.

Isn’t this feature(or similar) supposed to be added in V1.0?

Always made me laugh a bit how C4D&LW call their tools so I’d be happy if wings continues to stick to it’s own personal terminology.

<< can Move the point and then Connect them. >>

JIII - Sure can - but note there’s an issue with displaying these new (unconnected) verts - which makes connecting them up more difficult than it should be

(Bj’s aware of the problem, btw / 9817g)

Ok.

I’m using the older 0.98 11b and it works fine.

#10

hmm maybe its time I updated my wings I am usinsg like version 0.1 or sometthing lol.

I have had this copy of wings sitting around for a longggg time.

But yes knife cut was what I was thinking about.

#11

New question. Why on my older version of wings does the program work fine and fast. On the newer version which is the latest stable release as of yesterday it is slow as crud, it has to think for a second or two before even extruding. Rather odd if you ask me.

#12

hmm
this happened to me.

I made a model in wings…imported into maya, and tried to move it around…it was like…slow

and it wasn’t that much either. infact, it wasn’t that complex of a model, and my computer is quite a good new beast. it was odd really.

#13

Hmmm… i am running the latest stable release on 3 diff machines and it is just as responsive as ever… perhaps you should post your details (ie system specs) over at the wings bugs thread at wings3d.com… perhaps bjorn will help.

#14

Is this the same as the edge loop feature?
