Hi guys,
I’ve never used mudbox before, so bare with me.
I have a huge 3ds max terrain model (3.9km x 3.4km x 170m ~1.6mio vertices) that has a terrible topology and edge flow.
To be able to refine and improve the mesh I need make the topology a lot cleaner and more usable than it is now.
over at the 3ds max forum someone suggested using mudbox or zbrush for that purpose.
I exported the model as FBX and imported it in mudbox. There are some issues though. Some of the verts and faces seem to be in the same position but not properly welded and there are a lot of verts that have way to many faces attached to it (which is why I need to do the retopologing in the first place).
For parts of the model (select some faces, duplicate it, have the retopology run over it) it works really nice and fast resulting in some great topology.
However because of the above problems it won’t work for all of the mesh.
At one point I was able to delete some faces and patch them.
However if you look at the attached image, I can’t seem to tell how I can do this. I can’t delete all of them at once, since it would change the actual model too much (it’s not all flat) and deleting and patching in parts seems too tedious.
can someone point me to a tutorial about this or tell me what I can do?

Is there one I was too blind to find? I’m not going to buy a software that I don’t know how to use and are unsure whether it’ll actually provide a solution for my problem.
