hi ares, so far this is looking pretty good. There are a few changes that could be made which would be an improvement. The ball of the nose would look more natural if it were a little more rounded. Don’t be afraid to pull some vertices out to widen it. And in the profile the nostrils are too far away from the face… you should be able to see more of the ball of the nose in that view. Have fun fixing the sausage lips (outter corners) in front view… they are a pain. The 5-sided poly at the side of the nose can be turned into a quad by adding another edge loop… the 5-sided poly is causing that area to look off. Have you started to give better shape to the eyes yet?
newbie head
hi, thanks for the info on the nose! it was bugging me for a long time but i just didnt know what to do.
what are sausage lips? the eyes are problem parts for me too… but a few look at other people’s works would help me fix that…
thanks for pointing out that 5-sided poly, i didnt notice that.
once this looks good enough, ill start all over again! just to see how much i learned.
ares, you could try uploading the file so people could tweak it and get back to you with the modified version. Then you could see what’s been changed and choose whether to reproduce it.
hmm… never thought of that… might actually be a good idea…
ill upload it as soon as i can…
thanks.
EDIT*
i dont know how to upload a file… i feel stupid…
PS: does it even look like a girl/woman??
It does have more of a feminine look than a masculine one.
First I suggest using a custom lighting for modeling,as you model and get further/satisfied with the looks, rotate the lights and jump in it again. This is specially useful when roughing ut the basic masses because it will show you what light planes are defined etc…
On the details side, stop right there, you’ve got enough so you can have hours of Tweakin’Fun.For now,try to concentrate on getting the skull correctly, this will drive most of the head’s shape(you’d be surprised how much the skull shapes shows through a head’s skin),then you can go on with other medium details like the eyes, mouth and nose using Magnet operations.
It’s good to refer to images but you’ll learn much more if you use them outside the viewport once the basic general shapes have been roughed out and so will it practice your measuring skills.

Here’s my version:
http://home.ripway.com/2004-12/215971/unspecified/asd.wings
This head has fewer polygons than the original, but it responds reasonably well to smoothing. I’m not sure if that’s the type of head you had in mind. It’s on the European side. But then, I don’t know what Filipino women look like.
I started by removing loops and changed pretty much everything, including the chin topology, which I liked in the first place. It just didn’t look right with what I was doing. Anyway, see for yourself.
I’ve noticed you use X as the back-front axis. I used to model like that too, but then I switched. It’s more common to have Z for back-front and X for right-left.

w00t! thanks so very much nemyax!:bowdown:
ill try changing mine later. i cant right now coz’ of school stuff… must study…:banghead:
:bounce:
here’s my version… http://members.aol.com/divinerain/asd2.wings
Has a few more polys. Replaced the sphere and combined it to the head for the eyes. The nose and the forehead has a cpl tris side-by-side… the middle edge can be deleted later after done mirroring… something that caught my eye in Stahlberg’s face topology n wanted to try. Also it was done in ortho view. Doing your modeling completely in persp with ortho disabled will cause problems when u take it into another prog for rendering.
yehey! thanks divinerain and nemyax! :bounce: you’re very helpful!
i did a few tweaking with your versions as reference… dunno if it looks any better…
thanks again!

hey! this is my 100th post! i am now a frequenter! yehey!:wip:
:applause:
i made another head just to know how much i learned from all this…
i still looked at the tutorial in case i got lost though… this time its a male head since i find it more convenient to model male heads because i draw male heads quite often… i dont know if i want this to look realistic or not…as long as it looks like a male head then its ok. i still find the mouth to be the most disgusting part now… and the eyes too…
ive been talking too much
here’s the head… and oh, this was done in Silo but i thought i would still just post this here…

EDIT* did some tweaking and made look more human than an ape…
hi all! i made an alien head this time… and this time, i didnt follow any tuts! this is all me! big whoop!
the alien theme is just an excuse to avoid modelling a real nose and ear:p though i know that he’s missing nostrils… here are the images: pls crit them…

started on the body…
this is my first time modelling a body so i definitely need help… any help is appreciated

heh, i forgot about this thread. just thought i’d update it…

im planning on making a new head… his head looks too boring for me… any suggestions are greatly appreciated!
WOW! Nice job.
I wouldn’t get rid of the head though…it seems to fit the rest of the character. Maybe add more detail to it like ridges across the forhead or something. I don’t know, just a suggestion
Keep up the good work. I like the creativity of it.
