I am someone who has fallen in love with animation and wants to make a career in the CG industry.
This site is superb and is a great read. However, this site seems to be a lot useful for those who are already there in the industry or knows what to expect in the industry or are aware of the different career options available/present in the industry.
I work 20 hours a day doing 2 different jobs, and my hlaf-days wages allow me to access the internet for an hour in a day. Heck, Entry-level professionals in this field earn in an hour, what I earn in a fortnight. I live in a place where there are no institutes and in my country it does not matter where i relocate, i still would not have access to good education in this field. I hoped to learn on my own. However, all my research has made me realize that this field is hugely vast and i honestly do not know where to start. My lack of access to resources not withstanding, I am highly motivated to make it in this industry.
I request the site managers to first of all, create a walk-through which will allow newbies interested in this field to learn what are the different gamuts of this profession. Really would help if we understood what diversification exist, the implications of the same and how to go about accomplishing mastery in the same, and the vistas such skill will open up for you. Also, it would be superbly wonderful, if you had a tutorial segment sectioned which will allow even a determined lay man to learn the art of CG. I will work 40 hours a day if it means that I can learn CG.
I do not want charity. I just want to learn. I am sure there are others like me out there, who are limited in their access to resources who would appreciate the opportunity to pick the brains of the greater learned men and women of the CG world. Please share your learning with us. I understand that you have acquired these through great hardship and diligent pursuit, and hence believe you would understand the desperation in my request. If this site was a school, that would be the beginning of a dream for me. Sigh !
Even if this request goes unanswered, promise you all that no matter what, I will learn what I have fallen in love with, master the skill of the art and make my mark here, no matter how long it takes.
