New Wings3D Shape Extruder Plugin …

Well not completely new … but overhauled a little.

Try it out and let me know if you can use it to make some cool new shapes. If not … I’ll make more templates pretty soon, and I’ll dress 'em up so they can be tweeked easily.

Hi markyjerky,

I think the plug-in has potential but it’s a little daunting to use. Documentation on what the various parameters mean and how they are used as well as the differences between each primitive would be helpful. Being faced with a screen full of long equations I really didn’t know where to start tweaking…so I changed the parameters that took single, integer values which sometimes produced a crash and sometimes did not. Another thing that would be nice is to have an option to not have color applied to the primitive.

It’s the nature of the beast …

It’s very raw … but I think very powerful if you have some trig, higher math experience.

Yeah … I should add a NO-COLOR flag. You can however set RGB to 255, 255, 255 if you want plain white. That’s sort-of a universally understood thing. Or maybe its 1.0 1.0 1.0 … if I’ve normalized those values. I can’t remember.

I can add range qualifiers for for some of the fields that are most likely to cause BOOMs. This will help … but it’s not a PERFECT solution … I don’t think there is a PERFECT SOLUTION that doesn’t interfere with the flexibility which is the basic design philosophy is that you should be able to make LOTS of interesting shapes with it.

I’ll try to add a READ-ONLY aspect to many of the canned parameters … leaving open the most flexible parameters … the ones easy to interpret.

It should get better before too long. I’m actually looking for another coder to adopt it though, in the long run.

Ahh … see now … I saw in your info-stats that you are a coder. If that’s not just HTML … then maybe you will learn Erlang and help me out.
