New Wings3D animation WIP

#1

Howdy folks,

I modeled this wheelbot back in March and finally revisited the project…

I have plans for a cool orb-battle scene, so this is going to take some time, as it is just a personal project for fun and practice. The orb bots were modeled in Electric Image Modeler and the animation is done in Electric Image Animation System. I used the XP scripting tool to have the wheel turn correctly based on distance and the shocks squash/stretch based on the Y axis movement of the chassis (also controlled with a SIN wave in the same wheel turning script). So, as the bot speeds up, so does the chassis bounce…and it slows down the same way. Scripting ROCKS! Anyway, Wings rules and I’ll post more as the project progresses.

Enjoy!

Wow that’s pretty cool =D. Nice test animation. Is the robot gonnga be fighting it’s wa throught while riding down the road? The fog seems a little too thick but everything else looks pretty good. I haven’t used wings 3D yet but it looks interesting. Cool stuff, dude.

Nice bot there doesn’t EIAS do smoothing? Just curious. I alsways was curious about the program. Make a wheeled vehicle for this months challenge hey could be fun.

Thanks guys! I haven’t fully decided what will happen in the scene yet. I’ll likely just start animating and see what I end up with.

Smoothing? I’m not sure what you mean? I smooth everything in Wings prior to export. The orb robots were created in Electric Image Modeler, a great solid-surface modeler…(a dead app, but may be revitalized soon).

EIAS is an animation program only. There are some 3rd party plugins that allow for geometry creation within the software, but it has always relied on having separate modeling apps for model creation. It plays very nicely with Wings models.

There are many things that keep me coming back to EIAS, but the 2 main reasons are 1) ease of use and 2) render speed! EIAS is BY FAR the fastest renderer out there and they don’t charge for render nodes. So, I’ve built myself a small render farm of about 22 nodes (Mac and PC) and they all play nicely together when rendering. Really speeds things up for project deadlines.

I highly recommend the program as it is stable and provides predictable results and the quality of the rendered images are top notch! There are pros and cons with every software, but I love EI and will use it as often as possible. I mean what other 3D application can handle 3 million polygon scenes without a hitch?? (yes, 3 million+) Check out their gallery: http://www.electricimage.com

You might be surprised to learn that the software is used on many movies you may have seen recently!
