New to wings, first thing...

#1

Hi everybody, i wasnt very sure about posting this unfinished head-model i made in wings…but dont know maybe i woke up today like sharing…

I´ve heard about the eloops-mirai-nendo-wings for quite long, but i was already happy with my setup, and very confortable…i´m aware of the way one should work with a package that has and lives for edges, but coming from lightwave that wasnt straight…

At first, i was a little frightened, cause i have to tell the prog everything, like telling what tool(trans-rot-scale), and what axis, and that could be spiced with magnets(man this tool wet my pants), this in lw is really damn intuitive, like you setting the center to manipulate anywhere your pointer is in…

After one day playing with wings, at the evening, after reading some tuts, and checking the help, i was starting to feel right about it…

I still get a little mess up seting a custom axis for rotating while using magnets…but time will help…

Tweaks is wonderfull…virtual mirror is amazing (something that silo doenst seems to have, just tested it a while…)…and man, oh man, magnets are so freaking coool…

As policarpo said somewhere, one of the lacks of this marvel proggy is realtime-subdvs…

And its free!! O_O

Here´s the result of one day playing around…

Great first Wings Model there kokoro!

Everyone likes tweaks & magnets it seems, but what did you think of the overall workflow… It sounds as if you sppent a great deal of time setting up a LW flow, but I think you should give the default command structure a shot (you know learn 3d over). I have worked with most of the products out there and I found Wings default workflow to be light speed in comparison to LW (which in contrast to your experience, I found anti-intuitive).

Keep playing with it, and if it fits, make it part of your personal pipeline (I use it with XSI and Wings gets about 60% of the modeling work). Really looking forward to seeing some great Wings meshes from you.

Hi,

I can only dream of being able to model like that. It’s incredibly inspiring to see work like this, and given how comfortable wings feels to use, I’m determined to get there. As a newbie, if you don’t mind, a couple of questions. I understand magnets from the manual but wonder how they’re used in the creation of a character model. Would it be possible for someone to give an example of how they might be used at a particular stage in modelling a face or body? As someone starting out I find myself using tweak a lot but not knowing when and where magnets would be useful. The above post for example–setting a custom axis for rotation using magnets–is this something that was used in the above model and how?

Thanks for any help.
