New Selection Plugin

#1

Here’s a new patch/plugin (copy it to the “ebin” folder):
gamma-ray.home.comcast.net/tmp/sel.zip

Select any two verts, then in the Select By menu:

  1. Fewest Edges Path – select fewest edges path.
  2. Shortest Path – select shortest (distance) path using Dijkstra’s algorithm.

Test both methods out and let me know of any bugs. Thanks.

Downloaded the file, copied in the ebin folder, restart wings but I couldn’t see the
Fewest Edges Path and
Shortest Path
options in the select > by menu

I’m using a mac ?

I’m running 98.35…I select two verts but don’t have those options in the select–>by menu.

It sounds like the modified module is not loading. Are you guys sure you added it to the correct ebin directory? You have to replace the wings_sel_cmd.beam file in your wings/ebin directory with the new one; make a backup first just in case – you never know what can go wrong. But I tested it on XP and OSX and all is fine.

The ebin directory for both OSes:
WinXP - c:\XXXX\wings3d_0.98.35\lib\wings-0.98.35\ebin
OSX - /Applications/Wings-0.98.35.app/Contents/Resources/lib/wings/ebin/

Let me know if that makes it show up in the menu.

That was the issue…too many ebin’s to choose from! Both options work like a champ…thanks for the plug-in! Is there a way for them to appear on the right-click context menu? Accessing things from the top menu completely disrupts wings’ speedy workflow.

Select options aren’t included in the RMB menu.

Both of these new select options can be assigned hotkeys - if you want easier access

Yes, hot keys are fine. I flippantly made that comment without really thinking about it.

One more thing, I was doing stupid things trying to crash the tool: select verts on two different objects and try and use one of the options, it causes a write to the error log. don’t know if you want it to do that…or perhaps pop up a message box that says, “hey moron…verts have to be on a single object” or something.

cheers!

I didn’t even think of someone selecting verts on different objs. I’m glad you caught that. I’ll see if I can add a pop up. Thanks, and I hope that’s the only problem.

#9

Perhaps include objects that’ve been combined - in case someone tries that as well?

Same here

Nice addition. Thank you scorpius.
