New GPU purchase 3DS Max Experiences Needed

#1

Dear forum members,

Recently I’ve been working on a project that involves a lot of particle simulation in 3DS Max. Laggy viewport performance has really been a real hindrance as the complexity of my scene increased. Right now I’m using my old Nvidia Quadro FX 3700 as workstation GPU and therefore I’m considering to upgrade this component with a new Nvidia Quadro K4200.

My question to you guys is whether a GPU upgrade like this will noticably improve my viewport performance in Max (particularly when doing Particle Simulations). I understand this highly depends on the particular scene but were talking at the highest about maybe 10000 particles with a shape instance applied.

Generally I’m looking for some experience reports of people who upgraded their GPU’s recently. Of course I already checked (and read) all the reviews on Nvidia’s Quadro GPU releases of this summer. But they didn’t give me a good understanding what to expect in terms of improved FPS in particle simulation.

Hope anyone can offer some insight

Kindest Regards,

Joost
