New Forum..

Hello All,

I am new to this forum, and glad to find it… I have been on other sites that are dealing with cnc. I want to learn more about Rhino, I have had the program for about 6 months now. I have just upgraded to V4, I love the UDT function…

I use my rhino with two plug-ins. Rhinocam, and Rhinoart. I make models for mold making. Things like fountains, pottery, and I plan to make statues. Looks like a Great PLACE TO LEARN how to make bodies.

I am interested in a good rendering tool so that I may do a more life like render. Any input would be great…

I am going to read the forum on surfaces, and flip thru the tutorials…

Also what type computers are you all running?
Does anyone here use a laser for scanning?

Look forward to future discussions…
Later,
M

I am looking at rendering software and would like some imput. I am wanting to render my garden features… I have attached a rendered fountain, and a picture of the same that is no longer a concept. I know the render is not that good but that’s why I am here… Flamingo, cinema 4d, or which?
I want to use it for pre-sales as the product is great (in my eye’s)…

Thanks,
M

First off… welcome to the Rhino Forum  Good to have you.

In the last few days I have finally started playing with Vray for Rhino it is tenfold better than I expected. There was so talk about Vray a month or so ago on here but I didn’t really join in as I haven’t been ussing it. That said, just search for ‘Vray’ in the Rhinoceros forum and you will find something relevant.

I think Vray is a great option because it allows you to do somewhat photorealistic renders from within Rhino only ussing a plug-in as appart from buying an entirely new software package just for rendering.

Hey thanks for the imput. I have already pruchased Flamingo. I posted a few days ago thinking that I would get a lot of feedback. I was wrong… I am a member of many forums and I got some advise from renderosity that caused the purchase. www.gregere.com had good points… I am sure that I will be trying more renders, but I think it’s a good start… Plug-ins, Ilove them too, I have rhinoCam and Art… It’s so easy to use that way… Before I purchased RhinoCam I used Bobcad/cam which is a more primative cnc software, I foud it to be a hassle moving my part from program to program…

I am sure I’ll have more ?'s, and love to talk to peeps with simular interests.

I have noticed that models are for sale. Are those usable for 3d creation, I mean are they in a form that would allowme to make a tool path for cnc machining. If so what size would they normally be, tiny or Huge?

I do not see a lot talking here? From what I see posted there are a lot of people who are great with rhino, and seem to be some what reserved when it comes to posting… Please POST what’cha know, what’cha want’a know, or just Say HELLO.

58 have looked and only two poster’s… How’s the weather?

Looking forward to learning, teaching, showing off, and general Conversation…

Marc

Hi Marc,

I guess most people are just busy. Personally I haven’t found much time to join in with the conversations as I am getting busier with time. Work, personal studies, life.

So here goes my hello. I’ll share what I can when I have the time.

Snecx,

Thanks for the hello ;-). I have a kinda passion for this now. I love working with the software to produce something that I could not do other wise. See at heart I am an artist, but I just can not get the information to flow from head to hand. That is what I love about artistic software. I admit that I may never be able to build 3d sculptures *animals, humans, and cartoons. So I will stick to what I know best. I grew up in the Lawn and Garden business, so I will continue to make pottery, fountains, and architectural features.

My son is really doing pretty good with Rhino too. He is 12 and has the same problem as me.. My daughter on the other hand, who is 10 can draw and sculpt like a pro.

I understand the time thing. 2 children, 35 staff members, and then the problems that go along with manufacturing. I also like intence pressure for short periods of time. I like to take on project that do good, like the church I attend I have volunteered to build a markee. I have made it hard on myself. I want stained glass in it and after I mentioned it everyone loved the idea. Now I have learned to make stained glass panels..

I want go in but I hope people can drop by and say HELLO like you.

I could keep on going but gotta get Easter baskets, and some Easter clothing. It’s a big deal to us… Happy Easter…
Be back later,
Marc

BTW: We import clay pottery from Malaysia. Do you know of those type factories? I have only been one time, my father goes quite often. Here is our corp. site www.cravenpottery.com , and I am in the process of buildin g a site for the manufactured goods to target retailers…

Everybody? let’s make a great forum better… Speak OUT!

hi point cloud
i usualy goto renderosity if i need help with something but then again i can generally find a solution to probs if i spend long enough trying to work it out. I think that you will find there is a lot more browsers than posters here. not that this is a bad forum at all.

@ 2nd post
I dont know if flamingo could do the render you wish but you will probably be more successful if you try a composition with photoshop, perhaps you dont need a photoreal render for this job anyway

spincad,

Hello!! Maybe we can change the posting thing. I am over at Rdsity too. About the same responce there, hehehe… I asked the same question there in an exsisting thread… greggrE gave me a shout out…

THe photoshop will have to be later on in my learnning… When I started I had no idea that it would take some much SW… I am sure you know that SW is high$… Rhino is not to bad but I use R.Campro5 and R.Art with it and they together are around 3500 not inc Rhino… I just bought Flamingo, bongo and Peguin in a bunble… I am low on SW money for a little… Oh I also want Rhinonest soon… Cloneops brought my attention a good use for it…

Hey thanks for the shout out and hang around more often…

What’s your interests spincad?
Later,
M

Im a little confused after reading your last post,so ill try and simplify my answer…

1.whats SW mean?

2.im not familiar with r.campro or r.art what are they?

3.i use solidworks, rhino, flamingo, vray and photoshop for designing products usually things mass produced -more info in my folio if youre interested…at the moment im not very busy using them due to work situation but i still like to give people a hand.

SW is SoftWare.

RhinoCam is a plug-in for creating CNC code for (numericlly controlled) machines (VMC, HMC, CNC LATHES, CNC ROUTERS).
RhinoArt is also a plug-in it allows you to take a picture and use the rgb or ggrey scale to make apuff or relief. You can also use lines to make mesh surfaces… www.rhinocam.com it is a MecSoft product spun off VisualMill.

Sample of G-code G00 = rapid move then a cord X 12.125 Y 15.0 Z -4 (OTHER AXIS 4TH IS A 5TH B, AND 6TH C AND SO ON)
G01 X#Y#Z#F(FEEDRATE IPM) 30
Basically your code has all the points of your part posted in a .NC or .txt file, then a machine would follow.
Axis A,B and C are different A is normally a rotation axis, be sometimes holds a rotery table and angles it. C most always repersents a wrist of some kind that hold the tool. THis explaination is general as some people configure machines diferently for there application (No robots can be programed in this manner due to kinematics link http://www.kinematics.com/products/index.html robot assist)

I also use Rhino to model and mass produce. I am only doing this for our business, but after I get the rendering down I am going to use it as a tool for promoting my IDEAS. You know most ideas are not taken full corse, this will allow me to take more further…

I am planning on a portf too, I’ll take a look at yours…

I am sorry for the ABBs but I have picked up a lot of short cuts on forums… I have to ask what’s that often too…
Thanks for the shout out…
Marc
