For the other question, i think a sotware would do the trick but i’m not exactly a video man, so i could be wrong on this.

As far as I’ve seen (several entries in www.barefeats.com comparing setups), software RAID manages to fully use the internal SATA bus’ bandwidth. Hardware RAID is only required for certain RAID modes that combine data redundancy and speed, too processor-intensive to be done without extra hardware assist, or wanting the luxury of multichannel external SATA: each eSATA connector having its own full 3 Gb/s bandwidth channel instead of all sharing it (one could connect, say, four drives per connector or so, to build a really big RAID).
By the way, there is a kit that allows one to put two more drives into the secondary CD bay (there are two extra SATA connectors for these bays, currently unused by Apple): http://www.maxupgrades.com/istore/index.cfm?fuseaction=product.display&Product_ID=158
