New Animation Challenges?

Well, looks like nothing has happened here for a little while… any interest in starting the animation mini challenges back up?

Here are the old rules:

Rules: You have one month to finish the animation. Other then that anything goes in this session.

You will need to submit the following milestones:

  • Planning thumbnails

  • Blocking

  • Revision

  • Final

  • Final submission needs to be quicktime sorenson or WMP cinepak encoded 640 x 480 movie file. Prior submissions can be of lower res to minimize file size.

Are the old rules acceptable? Personally I like Quicktime or Windows Media for formats. Are group projects acceptable? Should there be a time limit for the length of the animation?

Also, a list of animation challenge ideas would be good. I’ll make a suggestiong: video game cut-scene animation.

If we can agree on a good set of rules, ideas, and generate some interest we should run the first of the new animation challenges from May 1st until May 31st, and then the next new one in June.

So, if there’s interest, Let’s animate!

Wikipedia defines “animation” as:

Animation is the optical illusion of motion created by the consecutive display of images of static elements.

This is a pretty wide definition. Which brings up the question: what kinds of animation are acceptable? I think anything within the realm of CG would work for these challenges. But, should 3D and 2D work be separated?

I vote yes, we should continue this. I’d like to give this a try. Would be nice if any form of animation was accepted (3D digital, stop motion, hand drawn, etc. etc.) Even though this is “CGTalk”, we’ll all be viewing pixels on a screen eventually, so I say anything goes…

i just started an ideas thread for stuff we can do each month.

gonna make another thread so we can layout the rules.

this could be really cool if it gets off the ground fingers crossed

Yes Yes!! I would really love to see more mini animation challenges here on CGTalk. Is that something anyone can start? Or would cgtalk be monitoring/hosting it (choosing sound file, etc.)?

i was thinking of doing it in the same way as the daily sketch group only with a month for each topic/subject
